I thought some of the more avid woodworkers in the forum might enjoy some close up photos of a few of the cues I recently built for a collectors' event in Houston.
Anything white is Elephant Ivory, the yellow burl-like material is fossilized Walrus Ivory and the soft yellow material is Mastodon Ivory. With the exception of some Sterling Silver and Blacklip Mother-of-Pearl details everything else is exotic hardwoods of various species. Would also make lovely wands, too (on a smaller scale, of course)

Nice work Thomas. As George mentioned, maybe you could make some special magic wands as well.

Excellent work. But, mastodon ivory? To me, that sounds somehow... wrong.

Thomas... you know how to hurt a guy. I just started aiming some of my woodworking at making some magic items. My first close-up table/pad came out pretty good and got some good comments here and from my IBM Ring. I just started to think about a wand and tried doing a "simple" wand first. First try was just OK....but after seeing these pics, I just threw it in the garbage. I ain't even going to try no more.
This is absolutly beautiful. You are a true artist and thanks for sharing... I think |

Those are beautiful, do have any full length shots? I am interested in finding out how much they run.

Absolutely beautiful. I'm curious is that inlay alone or is your work a combination of inlay and marquetry?
I was in New York City a few weeks ago and saw a gallery exhibit of work (mostly furniture) by Silas Kopf, who does marquetry - very impressive. He has a "painting" if you will done by marquetry called "Poker" in which you see a player getting ready to draw to an inside staight flush! Have you heard of him? Again, beautiful work!

Just realised they were pool cues, have you made wands the same way?
