Has anybody here read “Roll the Bones, The History of Gambling” by David G. Schwartz?
Schwartz is the Director of the Center for Gaming Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. If you’re into this kind of stuff, this book is VERY hard to put down. It reads like fine fiction. Schwartz is a serious researcher with a knack for writing material that’s easy to read even though it may contain thousands of years of gambling history and dense examination of gambling culture through the ages. This book has been out for a while but I just picked my copy up a couple of weeks ago. I’ve enjoyed every single page of this book, and plan on keeping it handy as my main reference book on gambling history. I’d be interested in what others who’ve read the book think about it, and suggest to other regular contributors to this forum who haven't read it that they consider giving it a shot. It’s far and away the best look at the history of "making the hazard" I’ve ever read. |

I have this book and I've read it a couple of months ago. It's definitively a great book on gambling history with some nice historical anecdotes.

I just finished this wonderful book.
There are scores of reviews available online – my small contribution is a referral: if you are interested in the history and lore of gambling, buy and read this book. Now.

"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time." "The dog did nothing in the night-time." "That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes. |
