The Dark Waltz- A text on the fine art of Bizarre Magic by Michael Fraughton.
My favorite 'show biz' book is and has been for a long time 'Circus Of The Scars'. Just about as entertaining and revealing as a book can be. I did a full review on that which you can find here and there with a google. With this book I have the same dilema I had writing that review...I don't want to reveal ANYTHING. All real treasure should be uncovered with out foreknowledge...that 100 dollar bill you find in the couch cushions is so much sweeter if all you are grabbing at is a piece of paper from the darkness. Simply put, I love this book. It is insruction, personal experience and literature and it is the most comfortable book on magic I have ever read. I don't know how to describe that properly. I don't know Michael from bean dip yet he was a close friend with vast knowledge, sharing it all in a way that fit like a glove. If you are or are not into Bizarre Magic or just like a facinating journey and how-to this will fit. This Author Performer is a crackerjack Bowman and fires clear and true to the target on every page. I think no matter your level of experience (or non experience) you will learn not only method and effect but the real guts of the theater being performed. Those of you who need to tell a story will find a vast amount of guidence here...not long drawn out bits that tax your memory and the audience patience...but precise story telling that draws one in, brings one closer so that the impact is one of wonder and surprise. Michael tells you WHY (a big thing with me), the chemistry of why something works and therefore why it wouldn't if you miss the mark. The book draws on the thinking of some other terrific performers and thinkers as well, so that you have a fist full of recipes and tried and true IDEAS to form fit to your style. The elements are brought together, tightly woven into what Seance and Bizarre Magic CAN BE when done right. Very special ENTERTAINMENT. It is STYLE (Michael's and yours) that this book is all about. It comes across...and like I mentioned it is a very comfortable experience to be taught by someone who can also write with understanding and insight that you can put to use. You WILL put it to use...no pie in the sky here! So I say get this book by all means. I know I didn't tell you what is in it. If you must know, go find out. PM Michael, whatever. I don't do spoilers. (Unless it was so so, this is not.) $35 plus shipping. PM Michael for ordering. It's on Amazon (at $45) BUT do a kindness and get it direct from the author. There are only two books I ever read more than once. My own and Circus Of The Scars. I am now into reading The Dark Waltz a second time. Yeah, I liked it. Doug Higley for TheMagicCafe.com

All I can add is ditto, ditto, ditto. I did spend time with Michael at Mystery School, and all you say it true, reading his book is like knowing him. Magically, Walt |

I will add that The Conjuring of the Beast is a beautiful piece and worth the price of the book alone in my eyes. Since I don't have Chelman's Hauntiques ...yet... Michael introduced me to magic squares. The layout, artwork, and material is top notch! Thanks to Michael for printing this as I would have still been missing out with it only in e form.
