I'm no expert and … I haven't read this thread all the way through, and I may be going off topic ... but - as mentioned above, it seems that the times that suggestion routines are most entertaining are not when suggestion is or isn't the method, but rather are often those times when the spec realizes that they have succumed to suggestion - and this may be a true or false conclusion.
Otherwise, yes, suggestion routines do seem to be more for the performers own satisfaction - unless you use it to achieve something totally OOTW!. I have a hunch that suggestion is easier to do if you dress sharply and powerfully - ie. a nice suit - although many Café members have disputed this, on the basis of their own experiences. Also, this thread seemes to be useful resource for generally increasing your knowledge of the general principles http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=15 Having said all that - I'd love to see psychicturtle perform.

Thanks Sean.
So I forgot to say - it seems to me that you're kind of in a double bind with suggestion routines. You can succeed and then reveal the method, and say 'hey aren't I clever and aren't you easily led' (although perhaps a bit more sensitively). Not really a very good option. Or ... you can succeed and then not reveal the method - and so not take credit where credit is due - and perhaps deprive the participant of one of the best 'real' psychological/mentalist sensations! Something that will leave them looking at themselves and the world differently. So you leave them suspecting mechanical devices and the like. Not really a great option either Or you can fail - and say what you were trying to do - and hence give away a method. Or have an out (which I find isn't always possible). So not a brilliant option. Or just fail and look stupid. I like this option best. So each possible outcome requires considerable thought about how to react/what to do. BTW - I have received Waters's manuscript Ponderings, and on first skimming, it seems to be rather clever and practical. Can't wait to study it in more detail when I have more time. One of the effects in it I was aware of before I received the ebook and ... it is a work of true genius. So I recommend it.
