I've really been thinking about purchasing either the victory cubes or cube squared. What makes cube squared cost so much more?

Well for a specific explanation you would have to ask the manufacturer. But considering that victory cubes is basically victory cartons done in that manufacturers type of material and cube squared is basically squared circle done in the manufacturers material, and you know how both effects are done, then you would know there was additional material involved in the making of cube squared, which probably accounts for its additional cost.

Make 'em from cardbaord boxes. Look more innocent and therefore more deceptive to the audience.

Cardboard boxes would work well in both these cases,
as would Coroplast materials. That said, the true beauty of Creative Illusions versions, is that they pack into tiny little spaces and weigh nothing, while being very quick to set-up and very durable. Someone who flies around the country performing need this packs-small factor, and some of their versions can even be carry-on luggage, so take into consideration your long-term needs when selecting materials. In answer to your question, I would go with the Victory Cubes. Much more versatile. Plus you can product a person from the Victory Cubes, which is petty much what you would do with the Cube Squared. Jim |

There are quite a few answers to your question so I will do my best to shed some light on this subject form a manufacture’s and a user's stand point. As they say in the hairclub biz I am not only the CEO I am a client as well.
photius is absolutely correct - the hard material cost on the cube squared is about twice the cost of Victory cubes (it comes with three cubes- two of which are double layered, a drop cloth, and a really cool mesh fabric). So hard costs and labor costs are much much more - that is the main reason. But the other reason it cost so much more is because Victory Cubes is under priced. We were going to price them at about $450 which would still be very fair for such a versatile illusion but in my show we use more then one set and we have found that most guys use two or more sets as well (some as many as 6) and we wanted to keep the price low enough that it was affordable to buy multiple sets. So the real question becomes which one to get? The advice I generally offer is to get Victory Cubes for stage decoration and Cube Squared for an illusion (this is how I use them in my show) the Cube squared is great because you can make anything appear not just a person so it is a one man illusion. It is also angle proof and easier to teach someone how to do. They both have their pros and cons and I would be happy to discuss any further specifics with anyone but those are the major bullet points. I hope that helps! Best wishes B

I have 2 sets of Victory Cubes and one Cube Squared, and I love them both. Each has their own strengths and can serve some very different purposes. Here's a brief rundown on both products:
VICTORY CUBES 1. Makes great stage decorations to make your show seem much bigger than it is. 2. Can also be used to hide smaller props during the show until you need them. 3. Can be used to dump props after using them in your show. 4. Can be used to produce a person at any point in your show. 5. You need to be aware of your angles whenever producing a person. 6. You will want to spend some time training the person being produced. 7. Set up and tear down time is extremely fast (less than a minute) 8. Packs flat and plays big. CUBE SQUARED 1. Packs flat and plays big. 2. Great way to produce a person at the BEGINNING of your show. 3. Very angle proof (except from top down during actual performance) 4. Almost no training needed when producing a person. 5. You can produce a ton of other items at any time during your show. 6. After the production, you can keep it on stage as a decoration and use it to dump smaller props in your show. 7. The Cube Squared is designed to also fit the Victory Cubes so you can interchange them for greater effect. 8. Set up and tear down time is extremely fast (less than a minute) I have absolutely no regrets in purchasing both the Victory Cubes and the Cube Squared. I recently performed a smaller, one-man, illusion show where the client flew me in for the gig. My entire show had to play in front of 400 people, but needed to pack into 2 regular suitcases. These products were the perfect solution. I opened with the Victory Cubes, producing the host of the party. (It only required about 5 minutes of pre-show rehearsal). This production got a HUGE response from the audience and triggered that first real round of applause. After the production, the cubes acted as stage decorations. I pulled smaller props out from one set of cubes as I needed them during the show and then dumped them in the other set of cubes when I was done with them. This kept the stage clean and neat during the entire performance and it eliminated the need for a stage hand to keep coming out with "stuff". This is very important in a one-man show. I used the Cube Squared as the finale to the show. After having shown both cubes empty, I produced a ton of medium sized helium balloons. As they floated up in the air, the audience broke out into spontaneous applause and there wasn't anything to do but take a bow. These products contributed greatly to the success of the show and allowed me to genuinely exceed the client's expectations. I mean how much of a show can the client expect when they know you have to pack everything into two suit cases? In any event, I swear by these products in my show and I highly recommend getting them BOTH. Now, wouldn't it be great if Creative Magic put out a package deal? (hint, hint) Kent

I have been using Victory cubes for well over a year and swear by them as stage decorations and a place to ditch things. Cube squared I got about 6 months ago and I think it is the perfect illusion. Well not perfect you can't use them outdoors - they will blow away but I hate outdoor shows anyhow and don't know if I will ever do one again!

I have the cube squared, from creative. It is a very good prop, practicle and so easy to fold and unfold! I am very satisfied with it. You can make appear someone at the end of the show, too (not only at the beginning, magicman845). The prop is easy to slide along the floor by an assistant, and you can cover the top if needed.Even front of the audiance.

Any uses for the Cube Squared... can it be used to produce a person or just light things?

Slim, it's a Square Circle! Anything that fits inside and you can physically lift can be used as a production item. You could produce a whole banquet, including table, chairs, table cloth, candelabra, food items and even a couple of guests!
You could produce all the decorations for a 50's sock-hop including the jukebox. Produce your lion, tiger or bear (oh my!). Tis the imagination that limits the prop. It is simply a square circle of colossal proportions.

Has anyone found any lighting issues with the Cube Squared? Looks like a great prop.

I am going to buy 2 sets of cubes, the cubed squared and the b-screens and I have plans for each. I like the idea of having a clean stage/performance area. The V-cubes will help hide the speakers and sound system on one side and the other side I will hide my props, livestock, and bigger wands. As for the Cube squared and b-screens, I will use them to produce people and things. Besides for the price you will have a very cool looking stage that packs away next to nothing. Just my 2 cents.

Both the Victory cubes(buy at least 2 sets to make it match- for decroation...etc) & cube squared is GREAT!!!
The only con for cube squared in my personal view is the provided 'mat'drop cloth is a little slippery for me.....if you have a black/dark floor, think is best to do without Both are very versatile props & you will find many uses for it, you won't regret purchasing one. 5 stars out of 5! Hope this helps dove-boy |

Hey thanks for the great reviews guys! That is what we love to hear! as for the slippery drop cloth - Dove-Boy is right if you don’t have to use it (because you already have a black floor or stage) then its best not to because it can be slippery but if you have a bright floor it is a necessary evil so please be careful - I think we mentioned that on the DVD!
thanks again B

Just finished a show this last week using Cube Squared, and loved it! I made a bunch of jumbo inflatable insect appear for the Kick-off of Catch the Reading Bug season! The show had about 1500 people, it was a great routine and played well to the larger audience size.
I used the cloth on the floor, it was an outdoor show so I needed it for the venue. It cleaned up nicely afterwards though and it's ready to go again! The cube Squared is best used as an illusion, whereas I mostly only use the victory cubes for decorations or to hide things like speakers, the rabbit, etc. As with other Creative Magic products, well made, and we love how flat it packs! |
