Roth, that's why they call it a "remote" control - it's never anywhere close when you want it................

Here's my three...
Equinox by Chris Taylor for the level of audience participation from the get-go. Lush effect that's never let me down. Even better if you run a £200 bet on the final reveal. This has earned me a deal of kudos and catches the entire room with hardly any effort. A gem via Max Maven and Andy Nyman. From six face down cards you find selected the only Red Queen from five black pips. Wonderful effect that I always let the participant handle and turn over cleanly at the end--even better with the laminated oversized cards that I've had made. Method has never been sussed, genuinely, ever. Believe it or not, a simple P.A.T.E.O with envelopes. Can be tailored for any event and plays for laughs if done correctly. It's purely beautiful and I love it. OR MAYBE... In another life, the series of ascending routines I do with my UFO II when strolling. I ran a whole evening with that and a few ESP card effects two days ago the uni bar where I'm taking my MA. Rebooked to play there again next week as punters coming back on the strength of it. Of course, I have some non-electronic stuff good to go in my pocket, just in case. When the god's finally abandon me I am ready and prepared. Nathan |

Yeah all well and good, but if you did them in that order would anyone notice? I guess the performance would be You on stage, you vanish, immediately appear in another location, and point out that the entire audience's watches have gone forward forty five minutes, close curtain. Not a bad show actually. Or by stopping time you could make the entire audience appear on stage looking at you in the seating. That would be fantastic. For me, well, usually there are three major effects in my show, and I would stick to those because they complete the criteria I find important to a successful show. 1. they are entertaining 2. they are fun to perform 3. they are easy to understand 4. there is enough variation that improvisation is a must. 5. every show feels fresh. 6. each new part of the show builds on the theme of the show and is more impressive/impossible than the last. So this is how I would restate the question. What are the criteria that should be met for you to pear down to three effects. And, sorry, but I feel no need to tell you what my three basic effects are, because if someone else was to do it just as I do, it probably would not make any sense. And I dislike the idea that there are people on here just gathering tested material for free. To those individuals I have to say, please know only work, failure and knowing yourself are going build a routine that kills. You have to do it to know it. Best, Stuart

I would choose the 3 strongest routines that are from my original work...
1. Mind Music 2. Write of Passage 3. Thought Realm All 3 are my favourite pet routines - all original. However, Write of Passage will be released in the coming weeks. Cheers, Al

Being a Generic Modern Mentalist (I love that term!) I'm going for
Chronologue Kurotsuke Confabulation But I think its a teensy weensy bit mean to ask for only three Gabe Surely five would constitute an act? Then if allowed, add Bank Night and Trilogy! |

Ive changed my list a bit...
1. Pseudo Psychometry(covers also cold reading, can be done anytime anywhere, is a pure gem from Anneman, got reactions with it, is practical, packs flat, plays big, all you need is envelopes... what more would you want). 2. Question and answer act. At the moment I chose for Richard Osterlind's clearly Mind reading. it also packs small, plays big, is personal, got reactions. 3. spoonbending. at one time I removed it from my act.. it was too well known. I added it again.. it just slays, it is also practical, can be done with borrrowed spoons etc. what more would you want effects that didn't make it: - Mother of all Booktest (good but you need to have the book. Nevertheless its the one booktest I use in my act!) - Impressionable Mind board or any other impression device for that matter |

This raises a good point...so just to make sure we have the rules straight here...presumably if reincarnation is factored in, we get another three effects per lifetime? Or are potential future lives still limited to the original three effects? |
