Hi All
I found this listing for The Genius Of Robert Harbin by Eric Lewis. The second photo down on the listing shows a diagram of illusion which looks a lot like Houdini's Rope, as published by Jim Steinmeyer in Device & Illusion. What is the difference in these two illusions? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THE-GENIUS-OF-ROBE......ViewItem Mark

The diagram pictured in that eBay ad is found on pages 150 and 151 of the Lewis book. The figures
are of the inner workings from Harbin's "Mechanical Walking Through a Rope". Without discussing the actual "secrets" involved, I can tell you three things: 1) Jim Steinmeyer almost certainly drew from Harbin's version as inspiration and guidance for his own manifestation of the effect; 2) The inner workings of each effect are markedly different, and those familiar with both devices will recognize that there is virtually no overlap in the methods used for each. 3) The Lewis book, "The Genius of Robert Harbin", is a fine book - as is "Device & Illusion" - and you would do well to own both. I do own Device & Illusion, just not the other. Just wondered how the effects differed. I fancied building Houdini's Rope some time ago but never pursued it as I didn't think it would play strong enough.
Thanks for the information Thomas. Mark
