There are a couple of organizations that I can't turn down when they ask for volunteer work.
Make a Wish foundation - kids with terminal illnesses. The organization that tries to grant wishes for dying kids. How can you turn them down? Target House - provides free long term housing for parents of out-of-town children being treated at St. Judes Hospital - a hospital for kids with cancer. No cost, no utilities, no rent, nothing. I guess it's anything to do with kids for me. Any of ya'll have groups that just tug at your heartstrings? Those to whom you just can't say, "no." |

I'm saying yes to the local senior center all the time now. Great practice but my wife needs to remind me to say no at least every other weekend or I'd never see her.
I'm doing my first show for disabled kids next month. You know I'll never say no to them!

Before you say, "yes" to any organization you should know who is really asking you to perform. Is it really the org. that is asking you OR a paid event planner who is given a set budget to host the event. If it's a paid event planner then they get to keep what's left over in the budget after expenses and that means you performing for free is lining their pocket and doing nothing to help the actually charity in question.
You'd be surprised how many requests for free shows are actually from Event planners who are making money off your hard work while you are not. Best, Tim Day 16 |

If it's a good cause and I believe in it, I'm there. I'm a giver of my time.

I can't say no to Child Haven and Make-a-Wish. Those kids are going through a hard time. If I can let them just be a kid and laugh, it means the world to them and me

Georgia Transplant Foundation
Second Chance weekend for kids with transplants My son had a kidney transplant five years ago. When you sit and talk to a 14 year old who has had three heart transplants you know that being there is the right thing to do. Bob |

I work with children, many of them disabled. I was already interested in magic, and working with them got me interested again. every time I do a trick, and the kids draw drops... makes me glad I'm making them happy, at least for a bit. kids are great, though they aren't affraid to point out "mistakes"...
