At times, the Café can be very intimidating. I spent the last hour looking and searching for PK ring uses. I found cheap PK rings, however, the advice on how to use them is very sparse.
Some say look in the DVD reviews section and I did. There are some really bad reviews on some DVDs related to the PK ring. If you don't want to post comments but rather PM me, that's OK. I am looking to do some great coin routines with shimmed coins and the PK ring. I created some interesting moves but I would also like to see others doing something. I am not generally considered a close-up guy (a Children's Magician who knows standard basic coin moves). Any GOOD DVD on PK rings, especially with coins?

Funny, I feel the same way about this topic. I recently purchased the PK Pro Kit, and it comes with a decent booklet, but given the amount of interest in this topic, I thought that there would be more information available.
I understand that there is a recently issued series of 4 DVDs by Randi Rain, a Café member. I have not purchased those yet, but intend to, since I would like to start working with a PK ring. However, from the description, these appear to be very specific and a greater teach-in video would seem to be a product that would find a hungry market. The Wizard PK Ring DVD is often panned on this forum as being of very low quality, though I can't comment on it as I have not purchased it (for that reason). |

I just got one and with the coins, it is really nice. I just want to see more about this. All there is posted is Wizard DVD with lots of negative reviews.

I did not buy a ring from Wizard I got it from a local magic dealer and have found these to be on line for $10.

What the PK ring allows you to do with the shimmed coins or other items is to avoid palms so your hand looks more natural and you can do a raven type vanish only you are dirty at the end. There is limited use for one as you describe your desires but an open hand vanish does look cool. You are correct in that much of what has been released is bad, they release material so people will be more likely to buy a ring and then more material in search of some super item. Randi Rain has put out the most interesting routines I've seen with them to be honest with you.

I do love the natural look and my best critic is my 14 year old son. He loved the production. I am working with a 4-coin matrix and yes there are some problems that need ironing out.

I know you asked for coin stuff, but you can do a terrific chop cup routine using a regular cup (even a paper cup) and a PK ring. It can be used for a cups and ball routine to do some pretty spectacular vanishes and appearances.
Just play around with it. If you do a good job, maybe you can create the next great PK ring DVD, although I would personally prefer a book...

The Randi Rain DVD's are actually very good. There are only a couple of effects/routines per DVD; however, the material works and the DVD's are priced very low.

I don't mean to insult anyone so that's out of the way.
Why would someone buy a gimmick/device and not know what they want to do with it or how they want to use it? Flies right by me. Also those that have purchased the ring, surely you know what makes a PK ring work. Effects that utilize this principle are plentiful. Why all the posts about what can I do with a PK ring? Again, flies right by me. |

Quite Simply, at a Christmas Banquet a dealer has these rings for half price. And, he had one that fit me. Since I had lots of shimmed quarters, and half dollars, as well as shells, I wanted to work with them.
True my ideas are creative, but I learned long ago, one can build on ideas of others. For instance, I would have never think of doing cups and balls or chop cup routine with styrofoam cups and just the fact the ball sticks to the cup intrigues me. Hanging from the ceiling with one hang intrigues me two, but that it's not that strong. I'm not into that match sticks routine, but other routines that are new to me and there really isn't a lot written on it, and the possibilities are numerous, and the price was cheap. they all said BUY me!

O.K. Dennis I understand your purchase. After all it was on sale!
I'll buy the "one can build on ideas of others" reasoning too. I'll admit I'm a tightwad of Benny proportions and have made my own PK Ring gimmick. I made it to perform a non-chopped chopped cup. The plans and routine are not on sale in PDF form nor will there be an upcoming DVD or instant downloads. |

The ones they sell on the Internet for 7 to 9 dollars make it not worth building your own!

It's worth it when some wise guy says, "Hey! That's one of them there PK rings.", and I take it off and it won't even attract lint. That and I spent less than $7 to $9 to make it. Remember, tight as Benny, Jack Benny.
