I know what it is...but who is generally credited with the origin? Are there any good references, sources on this move?

Josh, do you mean the almost edge-grip hold by the second or third finger? If third finger, I believe this goes to Geoff Latta and he calls it 'Nowhere Palm'. If second finger, this was un-named though in use by the late 1970s as a temporary holding position by myself and others in NYC. By 1980 it was considered a high fingerpalm for use by the edge grip happy coinmen. Until David Roth's book and CoinMagic were released it was considered very poor taste to jump claims on these things. The feeling was that David Roth and a few others had been working on Edge Grip material for a long time and have the right to release their material first.
