I am planning to present some mentalism on television (1st time) and I was thinking of present Touching On Hoy, that I think is a very very impressive routine.
Have you ever get problems performing it? Any problem you have with it or something? Sorry if my English is not the best I hope you understand... Happy new year |

Hmmm, would not be my first choice for a TV show. It is not really an 100% effect, and also it relies on a somewhat dual reality principle so if your assistants talk to each other after the effect- it won't work out well...
This is a great effect on stage, but I'm not sure for a TV show- is this a talk show? |

I would highly advise watching Luke Jermay's lecture dvd available from International Magic. On this dvd you will see Luke performing this routine for an audience of magicians and something interesting happens when things do not go as planned. Not many people could pull off what Luke does to resolve the issue because not a lot of people can think as quickly and creatively on the spot as he can. It is a great learning experience.

It is for a magic contest that will be at a night show. Maybe I should change because it is so impressing that people will talk about after performance.

While I do agree that Touching on Hoy is a very impressive routine, like other posters have said, it's probably not the best idea because if the participants do speak with each other afterwords, something can happen. However, I may be able to help you out. Are you planning on making this a comedic performance or a serious one?

A serious one I think but I need to check the script but at this moment I think it would be serious

Sorry if I was unkind Bruce. |

You weren't unkind. It just took me a little bit of time because I had to attend to some family business.

Oh ok, thank you Bruce. I just read the routine and I think it was great idea to use that force instead. Tomorrow I send you a pm. It's late here in Mexico and maybe I can't finish.

I'm struck by a nagging doubt after reading Jermay's 'Touching on Hoy' effect.
Aren't two of the volunteers going to have a rather strange after effect experience? For example, one volunteer gets back to his wife in the audience and she asks him "Who is Liz????" (or whichever name is used). He replies that he was thinking of a triangle? And his wife says, "No he definitely touched you and asked you think of a special name. So who is Liz????" Same with the other volunteers, who appears to be thinking of a significant year or date. Have I missed something? |

The money you spent on the effect, perhaps...
On the bright side - you actually got a manuscript!

I guess I am a little confused here.
You are thinking about doing and effect on TV that you have never done before and you are asking for advice on it? There are so many reasons why this is not a good idea.... Richard S |

I actually performed this in a recent show the only thing that went wrong was that the person that thought I had asked him to think of a year and I was only off by 1 year. It is a good effect but like some said it isn't a 100%.
As for something for TV...what about his dangerous opener? George |

I think I'm giving up on this forum.
There's is so little discussion now, just sarcasm. If not that, just someone else wanting to flog some rubbish. I had some ideas on how to improve Touching on Hoy: maybe not profound or groundbreaking but at least, constructive. But unless someone has something intelligent to say, I'll go elswhere. |
