I've read the various "S.A.M vs. iBM" posts and, if you only have the time and inclination to join just one, the answer always seems to be to see which one of your local organizations is the best (or, which one clicks with you the best). I live in Manhattan and have been thinking of joining one of the groups this year. Does anyone have any specific comments or advice for me about the NYC S.A.M. ring?
Thanks. |

The parent assembly of SAM (Assembly 1) is in NYC and would be a fantastic place to visit and get to know. You can get more info at their website. I don't think you could go wrong at all with this group.

As a member of the parent assembly, I would encourage you to come to a meeting. We meet the first friday of every month at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, 1425 Madison Avenue (98th Street), Goldwurm Auditorium, Main Floor, New York, New York. Look for Tom Klem, he can help you with membership and answer any questions you may have. I, Steve Gilbert, don't make every meeting but you can ask Tom to point me out and if I'm there I'd be happy to say Hi. The group is really great, I can't say enough about them.
Hope to see you at a meeting Steve |

I am also a member of the parent assembly, and I would second what Steve said. Definitely come down to a meeting and consider joining. We have many great lectures and activities that take place quite often. The workshops are great and we have had many guest magicians come in and work with the group. As a matter of fact there is one in the works that you do not want to miss! NYC is full of great talent and a great place to get to know your fellow magicians. Everyone is very outgoing, nice and always willing to offer help and suggestions! Hope to see you there!
