Sam,
There have been cases in this region (Carolinas) , of psychics and hypnotists being used in crime detection, etc. as well as magicians consulting on cases of fraud, gambling, satanic crimes, etc. (ghost hunting too) John Tudor

I did not know that John. Perhaps we can talk more about that later this month at SCAM. I only know of two instances where psychics were either approached or had approached the police regarding a crime. One of them was the Susan Smith case and the other was a local case where the girl was found to have simply run off with her boyfriend to Myrtle Beach for about six months.

I'm predicting more off topic comments from a few posters above. More on topic: I would have loved to see how Kreskin would have tried to find her had permission been granted.

As far as I know, there has never been a verified case of true psychic ability. Even the Russian's gave up after finding nothing (and they tried hard, with government support, during the cold war).
As well, just because some police departments have used, or entertained using, a 'psychic' doesn't mean much. Police are people too and sometimes have gotten desperate in a particularly intractable case, or one in which they have few leads and a lot of pressure to solve (serial killers for example). From what I've read police are much more often approached by 'psychics' to provide their services than they ever accept (which, when they do, they usually regret). Police may be fallible, make mistakes, lack inter-force communication for solving crimes, but I doubt very much that Kreskin has any more 'observational powers' than a detective who is used to working with crime data, photographs, witness interviewing, etc. It may be laudable to want to help but more often than not, 'helpers' actually hamper any efforts the police may be involved with. (As part of a volunteer search and rescue group who works with the police here in Edmonton, Canada, we almost never ask for the general public's assistance--they usually mess up, don't know how to follow the chain of evidence, don't know how to search properly, aren't equipped or trained in lost person behavior, and we have sometimes had to go out and find some of the helpers who themselves get lost) --Mike |

A serial killer just killed a friend of my Fiance' Sherri. Sherri used to watch her kids. She loved them! They lived nearby when we lived in Daytona Beach, actually Holly Hill. We just found out about it last night. Sherri has been in tears all last night and the majority of today.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/loca......1_layout If there is such a thing as Psychic abilities I hope that they can help here. Several months ago, before moving to Orlando I had some impressions about the murders. Little did I know how close to home this killer would come. I'm a bit confused about my impressions now. At the time I even contacted some Café members about my concerns. Strange World?

It is difficult to deal with the murder of someone you care about. If there is anything I can offer to you or your fiancee Slim, please feel free to contact me.

Those who've condemned Kreskin here may be interested to know that (as per a statement he made on his 1970s television series in response to a query from the studio audience) his services in fact have been sought by the FBI for assistance in solving at least one crime. Remember: Kreskin's major in college was psychology (he also minored in m****e r*****g, I think) and, as noted above, his expertise in what I'll generically refer to as "thought reading" could conceivably be useful to law enforcement officials in this case. (PS: One off-topic thing, if I may: a year or so ago I was exchanging PM's with another Café member who participated in Penny For Your Thoughts. Then I experienced computer problems, reformatted my computer and lost track of my fellow correspondent, who was employed in law enforcement. I enjoyed our mutual communiques -- especially an *informative* discussion about a particular well-known mentalist -- and welcome him to send me a PM, as I just cannot remember his Café moniker!)
