Hi Regan, Another idea given to me from past FCM president Bill Baker. You can use those stackable glasses that do the penetration effect called "Crazy Liquid" or something like that. I know another neat "chemistry " trick with stuff you have at home already. PM me if you are interested.-Bill

Spellbinder,
I'm glad you showed these young folks that not all our old photographs are in black and white. (They still don't know how we found out about flash powder!) Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

That effect is called REFRESHMENTS from 1982 and got 4 stars in Genii magazine. I just re-released it. http://bigduck.tripod.com/magicianoriginals/id28.html Its on page 248 in the old Tannens Catalog with Blackstone on the cover. One of 18 tricks I showed you at the house.

Ian,
I used that trick before Refreshments in '82. (Try 1978.) The great thing about Refreshments is that you showed how to produce the glasses filled! Now that was a great leap forward! (I did not tip that.) When it came out I bought it too. But my sponsor then (1979-83) served refreshments in cans, bottles and mugs. It won't really fit what these Teakettle users are doing here. But, no doubt, it is a fantastic production. It needs to be available again. Have you ever suggested it for wedding magic? It should work! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Your right about the date..the Tannens catalog had it in 82'. I had forgotten, its been so long. But the instructions do indeed say 78'. Hard to believe its 30 years old. I showed that in Hartford for the first time at an SAM convention and I didn't think I was nervous until I produced the first glass, I almost shook the contents out cause my hands were shaking. 1500 magicians didn't have a clue as to how six different drinks came out of the small box.
I used to perform it with a small set of silver cannisters. I stuffed the silks in around the glasses, produced 3 or 4 drinks, then silks, then more drinks and then I used the Cresey 200' coil out of the cannister. Bunched up the colored coil and did a giant pilsner glass of beer production as a finale. That of course was the only thing that didn't come from the can. I also had some fun one night. Michael Amaar and I were sitting having a drink in the back of the Tannens show at Brown's. I took out a brown bag and produced a bunch of drinks for the group we were with. Real beer, vodka, wine and scotch.

Your "Refreshments" can actually produce more different drinks large enough to be visible to the audience than the Tea Kettle.
Due to the low volume available in the kettle, Lucy only uses two animals at her tea party (a live goose and a rabbit). Bob Sanders Magic By Sander Click here to view attached image. |

Ian, Refreshments sounds like a fabtastic effect! Bob, I'm not as brave as Lucy, I plan on using no live animals in my Magic Tea Party routine. (No dead one's either )
My routine was inspired by and it will be dedicated to my daughter. When she was little she always had 3 teacups at her parties. I think she had more, but she used three. She made me play, and always set a place at her little table for me. Sometimes her mother got the third spot, and if she wasn't there (or refused to play) a stuffed animal or doll got the took it. For this reason, and because the color scheme will work better for me, I have decided to go with only 3 pours in my routine. I recently finished a prop I call my Butterfly Box that I will also use in this routine. I searched and searched for props that would do what I needed to pull this off, but I couldn't find them. I finally built a prop, kind of like an Egyptian Water Box, that will do what I need. I posted about it in the Workshop Forum here at The Magic Café. If anyone is interested in seein it there are links to some pics of it also. I noticed that I started this post on January 7th. That was over 2 months ago. It actually took me about 3 months of research, planning, etc. to get this routine figured out. I still have to pick up a couple of more items before it it will be ready to go. Once I get those, and the music put together I can start rehearsing/choreographing everything. Thanks for everyone's help! Regan
