Is this book any good for someone who has no knowledge of magic? Before I got into magic and was just buying the odd trick here and there, a guy from work gave me this book as he just bought it out of interest and said he couldn't understand any of it. I took it home and looked through and it didn't make much sense of it either. I set it aside then gave it to a friend of mine who understands books easier than me. Now over a year down the line, I have been given this book by a family member and as I have been looking through it I find it a lot easier to understand. I have a few books that I have been using during this time and I think it's them that have helped. So is Bill Tarr's book not the easiest to understand for pure beginners?

I have both of Bill Tarr's "Now You See It, Now You Don't" books. In my opinion, they give the beginner a wonderful exposure to different types of sleight of hand and improptu magic. Each book is broken into chapters dealing with sleights for cards, coins, ropes, impromptu, and even cups and balls. Every illusion is rated for difficulty, an invaluable tool for the beginner as you can start with the easy stuff first, then work your way up. This was the first book I bought when I was starting (I had already read all the books in the library--small selection), and I still have it.

I still refer to Bill Tarr's books on occasion. Excellent teaching and reference manuals.
Cheers!

I agree, it is a great book for beginners and pros. The first time I read the book, I was new to magic, and thought the stuff would never work. Now, I use almost all the moves described in the book. If you see something in that book that seems like it would never fool anyone, find someone who knows the sleight and I guarantee you will change your mind.

It's one of the first magic books I bought many many years ago. Mine's held together with glue and rubber band.I'm always refering to it. IMO it's one of the best sleight books for beginers on the market. Take it one move at a time nad you'll be entertaining people for years to come.
