I'm looking for some information on the "Magician Mentalist wars"; the public debate over the exposure and psychic/magician/mentalists during the 30's and 40s.
More specifically, anyone know how magicians helped the FCC in it's development? Any specific "laws" created back then regarding the performing of mentalism or psychic business practices? I'm also looking for more information of how the specific "battle" (if you can call it that) ended. If I can recall, I believe that the SAM parent assembly made a public statement (wasn't there a public apology as well?), or did it just kind of "fizzle out?" I'm ending with how the debate over this sort of issue is continuing, but how it went back to being more of a "private" issue behind the scenes. I'm working on a project discussing the basics of this issue and period in history, and how it relates to non entertainers. In other words, I'm trying to give non magicians a little bit of history that is interesting and how such a private debate affected the public. Something interesting that people can say "wow! I didn't know that!" - you know, create a topic of conversation. I know there was in issue of M-U-M which talked about it in some basic detail, but I can't seem to find it at the moment, so I wanted to see if I can get this information from you guys. Suprisingly, there seems to be very little information about this issue online, even in a basic form. - I'm even looking for information on Julien J. Proskauer's involvement. Any information would be great. Thanks! |
