I happen to think the Fresh Fish routine is a great little bit of business. I use it as a "story time" in my kids act. It appeals to reading, manners and recycling to name just a few of the benefits the routine can sell, as well as being a nice little torn and restored paper bit.
I always buy my Fresh Fish gimmicks from dealers. They are easy enought to make, but I believe that the creator/inventor of the bit (whoever that may be) should benefit from sales, so I fork out the dough. I ordered some from a dealer that I had not bought them from before. I had placed an order for something else with them and as a last minute thought added the Fresh Fish to the order. Some of the FF arrived and the rest were backordered. The ones that arrived first were printed on good stock, but the gimmick was glued in the wrong place. I figured, oh well, and just changed the handling a bit. Not really a big deal, just a nuisance. Then, a couple of months later, the rest of the order arrived. They were printed on dirty and stained newsprint. The stuff looked and smelled like it had been lost in a damp warehouse for 30 years. It was disgusting and could never be used in a show. I sent off a fax to the dealer expaining my dissappointment in the order and telling them it would not even be worth my while to return them, that I was simply going to throw them out, which I did. The backorder was not worth much to begin with, probably less than $15.00. What really surprised me though was the dealer's response. There was none! Not a peep. So, there is a brick and mortar dealer in the USA (many of them are very good and I buy a lot from them) who has lost a customer for good. Rob |
