Fraidy cat rabbit is an EXCLUSIVE of Abbotts ?
LAst I heard Karl Norman sold the rightshe bought from Gene Gordon to Phil Wilmarth. The jumbo is Junk in my opinion. There is one on ebay as we speak it belonged to Karl Norman. NIce peice too

Many thanks brothers in Magic. The one I was looking for is indeed the original Abbots style with two doors, as shown on the |Chris Caoeheat DVD. the Door version dosen't do it for me, and if you've set your heaRT on something .......

There is an Abbotts version up on ebay for $65. Professional props are not cheap.

I did this routine for a Blue/Gold banquet Monday night. It is just a great trick to get the kids involved.

What is so nice about it is that it is done in your hands. Hippty Hops are good but you really need a table to work them.

I agree the jumbo one is junk. Stick with the original size and model.

Back when I was doing children's and family shows I ALWAYS used this!

I felt that Fraidy Cat Rabbit was one of the strongest pieces I had.
I did not use a "sucker" gag with it, and had a plausible story.

Mine was very light blue with stained and textured wood doors, it was classy.
I gave mine to a local children's entertainer and she even took it to France!

This was an effect that served me well and is near and dear to my heart.
Use it with care and imagination and you've got a sure fire winner.

This was from about the 1960's and I *think* it may have been crafted in Germany, though I'm not sure. It looked brand new even a few years ago, so it was very well made and very attractive.

Spellbinder mine is exactly the same and mine came form GENE GORDONS magic shop it was made in canada I believe that's the one I am using now. The one on my shelf that is retired so to speak is the same and is in researve for a time when I might need it. I love this effect. I do it every show. The kids love it! Gene had the original rights to fraidy cat as far as I know.

I am willing to bet that it was from Gene Gordon's and probably made by Karl Norman who made a lot of the stuff for Gene. I like the twist locking door on it a little better than the Abbott model but the Abbott's works.

I took some cheap fabric and sandwiched in some packing material (foam like about 1/16 thickenss) and made a bag for mine. It slips in and out like a dream and keeps it very well protected in the case.

Gene did have the exclusive rights and sold all of his rights to Exclessior Productions (Rick Johnson and Phil Whilmarth). Phil sold exclusive rights to Abbot's for the Fraidy Cat Rabbit. He still has the rights to many other Gene Gordon effects.

Karl did make some of them I remember years ago when Gene did his book of kids routines he was deluged with requests for all of the effects Gene used to sell and seemed noone sold anymore he peiced a few together from parts he still had laying around. Soon after that he sold it all to Excelssior. Anyway its a great effect ad the kids just love it.

Guys, I'll bet that's what it was,
I still sort'a wish I had it,nostalgia wise,
but it's in good hands where it will be used to entertain now!

A hard lesson here, even if we love a certain effect,
as our Magic grows and changes, and our style or persona shift,
we sometimes have to let go of things we loved,
even highly entertaining things,
if we cannot find a creative way to justify them in our new genre.

This was just one of those times,
I've been able to adapt many things, like the egg bag concept,
or even the die-box concept,
but Fraidy Cat was just not "me" any longer and had to go.

I gave up the Spot Card too, as impossible for my style and work,
and what-do-you-know, my protege managed to find a way to work it in,
but now that's his presentation and not mine,
no matter how much I want to steal his concept.

A bit off topic, but I think, and object lesson on good magic and style.
