I'm looking for some good impromptu effects using the one ahead method. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I've done this one, testing it out on waitresses, also I leave them a nice tip (basically for allowing me *unknown to them* to practice my presentation on them).
What I have done is ask the waitress if she has about 3 minutes to spare as I would like to try something that I have been working on. They always asks, "What is it?" and the bait is, "Mind reading." Well then I have her move to where she and I can look directly into each other's eyes. I pull out three sheets of paper (now I use one of those little note pads, as I can hold it in my hand and write, with the back of my hand facing her, thus she cannot see what I'm writing, before they could look down upon the table were I was writing, so I had to be very careful - again learned from practicing on waitresses), and then I tell her I want her to think of someone's name, without telling me. Then I give that straight stare into her eyes with my blue eyes. I then write down what she is thinking. I then fold the paper and ask what name she was thinking of. She responds and I follow it with a, "Hmmmm - Ok now think of a number," and follow it with the same routine, folding the paper and then asking her what the number was. Then I follow that as above, then ask her to think of a color, let's say, "Blue or Orange" and follow it with the same routine--folding the paper and asking her to name the color. If I was correct with the color, I hand her all 3 folded papers (with a swift mixing 1st), and let her read what I wrote. If I'm wrong with the color, I tilt my head with a look like I'm dissapointed in myself (this is a sympathy getter)and then hand her the folded papers (with a swift mix 1st). In either case, when what I wrote is read, the hook has been set. I sometimes follow it up with a little telekinesis, the metal chain (hanging freely from two of my fingers) catching a free falling metal ring effect (learned the effect at SAM #3 and added it as a telekinesis effect). Gee, I wish I knew it. Does anyone know were it could be found?

Hopefully it will be included in Ted Karmilovich's book coming out this summer. Even if it's not, I recommend picking this book up. It will include 60 of his best effects and his stuff is absolutely amazing!

Josh,
Regarding your original question, with all due respect...READ!! Annemann, Corinda, Cassidy, Lesley, etc. It's all there. Ted (Leondo) |

I agree with Mr. Leondo. Annemann and Corinda, the classics, both have one ahead impromptu methods. Just look it up. I think that they are both great books and most of my act comes from material found only in these two books.
An impromptu one-ahead masterpiece I use comes from "Fogel's Million Dollar Pieces of Cardboard." The effect is "Fogel in the Pentagon" and is very practical. From, Cornelius. |

A good one that I enjoy performing during a routine is "Walk-Around Impromptu Mental Epic" by Timothy Wenk. You can find it in the Magic Menu - First 5 Years on page 81. Check it out.
