I am in a predicament. I perform a variation of tommy wonder's routine but with a non gaffed bag. However I feel Tommy Wonders effect is emphasised by using the funny looking bag with pom pom on. Any idea what funny looking bag, or gags I could use for the bag which makes teh impact larger when it is found in the cup later on??

What is your other load, besides the bag? Or are you wondering what your other load should be?

I don't believe that the spectators ever thought of Tommy's bag being funny looking. In fact it's my believe that not one single person gave anythought to that bag untill it ended up in one of the cups.
If you want to use the bag as Tommy did then do it as he did. But why not come up with someone other item for one of the two final loads. Just because you are basing your routine on Tommy's doesn't mean it has to be that close to it. |

Years before I ever saw or heard of his loading the bag, I had done it. Also in a chop cup routine. Just work our your own way.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Do you want a gaffed bag? Tommy's is not really gaffed per se, but maybe you are referring to the fact that the pom pon is attached to it, in which case, you can add this to your existing bag.
Or are you asking about how to make the bag funnier? In which case, you could do anything you want, just as Pete Biro said. I think even using a sock would be a step in the right direction. For impact, Tommy gets it because the pom pon has already appeared under a cup once and he has replaced it. The audience remembers this. They've been conditioned. So when he finds the pom pon under a cup again, the audience is anticipating the next step: re-attaching it to the bag. So they relax from that surprise and then look for the bag. When they can't find it: a new surprise and intrigue/confusion. "Where's the bag?" And it builds up curiosity and then becomes a "no way" reaction when they start to come to the conclusion Tommy leads them towards: "It's under THIS cup..." and hence you get this big impact. -- But there are other ways to gain impact. You can do it your own way. |

Lucky for us faking a Pom-pom is much easier today than when Tommy did it way back when. He made (and gimmicked) his own pom-poms (teaches it in his lecture notes and I believe in his two volume book set).
Find the size pom-pom you want to use, spread the twist and glue several fibers together into a bit of a string and let dry. When dry clip this string of fibers off to below the surface of the pom-pom. Now take a rare-earth magnet “dot” and super glue to the tip of the string. Glue a similar r-e magnet to the string of you bag and you have a detachable/re attachable pom-pom that will work in the Wonder routine.
