I am going to teach a ten hour course for grade school kids on magic, and I would like advice. I will be following the first ten lessons in Harlan Tarbell fairly closely. I have the original course and the study guide. Any suggestions?

What age group are the children in? I realize "grade school", but in Ohio that means ages from 6 to 12 (very wide range).

Good question Mr. Holcomb. I'm asking for age 10, that's 9 to 11, but I'm hoping to get kids who can read before they become teenagers. Skilled but not yet sophmoric.

Teach the basics, some sleights with cards, some rope, some self working things, some prop magic. I also think its important to discuss magic history with the children.
Give them a taste of all the different branches in magic. Make sure to keep them all invovled and make them feel confident! Teaching magic lessons reaps great rewards! I teach classes at Churches and Rec Centers. Let us know how you make out! Ed |
