Check out the works of Lewis Jones. He has a ton of great ideas. HASTERIX is a great routine, but is a bit different than the parameters you discussed. It is one of my favorites (but cards are not really necessary).
I have heard great things about Mick's work as well. Thanks for the kind comments (regarding k?nt), gentlemen. Sean |

There are a few in Aronson's books that are amazing.

I enjoy Ted Lesley's Spectator as Mentalist. The spectator shuffles the cards, asks the performer to think of a card. Once a card is thought of, the spectator ribbon spreads the cards and slides one out. The performer names his card, and when the spectator turns it over, it is a match. No magnets are used. (I just had to say that. Don't know why, but I did.)

Oyama,
Yes, it is impromptu. Absolutely no force. No stooge. No pre-show work. Simple and strong. Bobby

I use a version of canasta's cards to pocket; The spectator takes the deck, cuts several times eventually deciding to stop and put two cards in their pocket, One in each, put the deck away, cards are named and decided in which pocket each card is in. I never touch the Cards.

I second Sean Water's comment about Lewis Jones. I am a huge fan and perform Lewis's material often.
Oyama, for the record, my 'Reality Phone Experience' was directly inspired by Jim Callahan's 'Fantasy Phone Experiment' which can be found within the pages of his LEAP OF FAITH manuscript. Jim's material can be found easily via his website: http://www.jimclass.com. As for my own works, I do not yet have a website specifically dedicated to my books. However, HOODWINKINGS and PREDICT-ABILITIES are available by logging onto Paypal and applying the monies ($20 each) to my account: mick@cardworker.com. Once Paypal notifies me of the transaction, I'll send the manuscripts for you to download immediately. Hope this background info helps, Oyama. Break a leg, Mick

I'm sure there's a lot of good suggestions already.
But let me add Derren Brown's "Invisible Deal" (from The Devil's Picturebook). Completely impromptu. In fact, you don't even need real cards. Your participant simply "imagines" the cards. |

Send me an email and I'll send you the lowdown on K.E.N.T. -- it's a very lame ripoff of one of the tricks in my "Tsunami" manuscript (now out-of-print).
Perhaps the best trick you can do along the lines you're looking for is Jim Steinmeyer's "Nine Card Problem" in his book Impuzzibilities. See: http://www.jimsteinmeyer.com/catalog/more/ There is a similar effect in Abbott's Anthology of Card Magic, Vol. 3., edited by Gordon Miller. See Jack Yates' "Miracle Mix-Up" (pp. 58-59). You can buy this book for a few bucks from Abbott's. |
