I thought I'd just let everyone here know that Christian Chelman's latest work, 'Compendium Sortilegionis,' is ready for publication. I'm not a Latin expert, but I believe the title can be translated as 'Compendium of Spells'.
I have had the rare privilege of seeing the entire book in ready-to-print form at Christian's home in Brussels and all I can say is that it is quite simply astounding, in terms of content, design and sheer magnitude and scope of thought. Anyone here who is familiar with his previous works (including 'Capricornian Tales' in English and 'Légendes Urbaines' in French) will already have an idea of the level of care and detail that Christian puts into his works. But in 'Compendium Sortilegionis', Christian takes everything to the next level, completing what he calls the 'first cycle' of his works. This is going to be a gorgeous book. Everything is ready to print. The actual publication details still have to be worked out, but it should see print later this year. The downside is that it will only be published in French. I have talked to Christian about producing an English translation, and while he has not ruled that possibility out, he does not see it happening anytime soon. Any English-speakers keen to lean more about Christian Chelman's fantastical world, might want to consider sending a message to Richard Kaufman urging him to publish 'Hauntics', an English-language book, which, together with 'Capricornian Tales', covers the full range of everything found in the French-language 'Légendes Urbaines'. Kaufman purchased the publication rights to 'Hauntics' years ago, but has not yet published the book. Perhaps if he received an onslaught of messages from people here, he would be encouraged to publish the book. Seems worth a try to me. |

Well, I have to say that Richard Kaufman doesn't tell the truth. Hauntics has already been translated and edited by John Racherbaumer.

So why would Richard not tell the truth? What is his gain? I remember it was anounced to be published in 1997. It is a pity that we have to wait so long. What can we do to speed things up?
