Hey guys, I just recently picked up a DVD on the muscle pass. I wanted to know what was your progress the first couple days. I mean, sometimes I don't even feel I'm placing it correctly in my hand. As a matter of fact, I don't even know if my lack of "pop'ing" is the result of bad formation or just being new to sleight.
I started about two days ago and I don't even know if I'm improving, what can I do to make sure I am? Where exactly do you guys hold it anyway? More to the center of your palm or slightly lower? |

I put it between the first joint of thumb and just under the big thumb-muscle.
So it is the big muscle of the thumb hwo pushes the coin to "plop". that's how I do it. |

You might as well pick up ogawa's muscle pass dvd.. there's a lot information on how you improve the height of your muscle pass, or even increase accuracy and etc.

I foced myself to to it in my classic palm position and it really makes it a lot faster for transfers. shoot ogawa mentioned this on culture exchange, but try waxing four coins togather and practice with that it makes a huge difference(it works even better if you use barbers to perform and regular halves for the wieghted one).

I had this explained to me by Shoot and his method made more sense and worked better for me than any others!

Hi mick, This may sound dumb but are you seconding what magician 336 just said, or are you speaking of some other method that Shoot explained to you ?

I'm pretty sure what I saw was what is on his Muscle Pass DVD but what 336 is saying sounds like a plan as well!

1. You don't flash when you use it as a vanish, part of a han pen chieng(sic), changeover
2. Your hand doesn't move when you are using it for the coin that falls up or sideways. 3. Magician's say "That's the guy with the great muscle pass..watch him do it with a nickel or quarter... Going from Morgans to half dollars makes sense to me. I use 2 or 3 halfs or 2 morgans. Haven't tried more than 3 yet. The first and second are more important to this nearly normal one. I never had much luck with the muscle pass early on. It took me several months to get it right. I got a suggestion while I was at a convention that helped me a lot. Practice and practice your Muscle Pass for months on end but in the meantime give this a try... Place the coin between the base of your index, middle, and ring finger, and the crease at the tip of your middle finger. Essentially the coin will balance on your middle finger. At this point you are going to sink the middle finger below your other two fingers. The coin will no longer be sitting on your middle finger, instead it will be on your index and ring with the middle continuing downward until it is below them. Then just "pop" your middle finger upward. This will cause the coin to jump giving you essentially the lazy man's version of a muscle pass. I am not saying don't practice your muscle pass. In fact I think I have forgotten to answer what you asked.....Sorry. When I wanted to know my progress I filmed my muscle pass. then filmed it again a week later. Over time you will notice the improvement. It's really hard to judge if you are getting better without "stepping outside" of the performance and looking at it. Give this a try. If you don't have a camera try a mirror. Another thought is maybe to ask a friend or family member. Tell them you will ask every couple of days to see if you've improved. That should help you gauge your improvement. Hope this helps.

If you head over to http://www.coinvanish.com, Dan has a great tutorial on how you should be doing the MP. Dan's site has a ton of great information for coinworkers.
