And I understand where you're coming from (i.e. viewing the realities of life), but he is far and above the good guy winning. If you read "Blood Meridian" by McCarthy, you will see what I mean, in that he makes his antagonist, who is as evil as Shakespeare's Iago, invincible, which creates a sense of irony (like in "Paradise Lost" where the protagonist never had a chance, or antagonist in this case). If you're not familiar with "Blood Meridian," I think they are turning it into a movie, due out next year. |

Just rented STREET KINGS and it had a GREAT ENDING! The film was GREAT all the way through, along the lines of THE DEPARTED and SHOOTER, a very violent action film, about a fighter. The ending for mem, made it a spectacular film!
If anyone sees it, write in. I just LOVED it, especially because of the ending! Keanu Reeves starred in it. I hope all of you see it. |

It was very bad, but hey, I like bad movies. BUT not this one. Just as it got interesting (as interesting as it got in that movie) things are looking grim, freeze, the entire cast come out onto screen, reveals it is a movie, and begins to celebrate. Tony |

I didn't care for the ending to "No Country For..." but the rest of the movie was good enough so that the ending did not spoil things too much.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Most of the movies that have had bad endings, I don’t remember. It is much like a magician having a great act almost to the end, but has a week finale; the last trick will be the one that persuades them to remember the show.
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

Good analogy of movies and magic.

Tom,
I have been thinking about your analogy ever since I read it. Hadn't realized that before! Even lousy movies can stay with you if the end is great. Just like magic. You made an really very interesting point. Thank you! |

I remember seeing "Mark of the Devil" at a drive-in. (Truly ironic since I didn't then and still don't now drive!) At the end (which I won't spoil for you) the entire audience of people in cars started honking their horns, flashing their lights and saying (I'm serious, I could hear this) "That's it? No way!"

The Wicker Man (2006)... it wasn't just the ending that was bad but I'll leave it at that.

The Color of Money- I wanted to see Vincent put a whipping on Eddie (On the pool table that is)
The Departed- SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING- I loved the movie but I hated the fate of Leo's character. It did make the movie feel more gritty and real, but still, I didn't want him to, you know... |

I found the ending of No Country for Old Men interesting. I saw it as the bad guy had principles that are good to have in any business, that is, to say what you mean and Mean what you say. He came back for her because that was the type of man he was, he said what he'd do and he MEANT it.
I liked the ending of HEAT with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro too because at the end, they were similar and could have been connected as friends. One didn't want to die alone and the other didn't want to watch him die because he felt the same connection - they were both alone in life because they chose to live the life they wanted to live. |
