Does anyone know the reason that they stopped offering cards to be cut in casino poker games? It used be the standard practice everywhere here to always offer the cards to be cut and not so long ago. It sort stopped here overnight. I was at the table the other night, in a casino and someone asked to cut. It seemed odd to everyone there except me that he even dared to ask. “Why do you cut the cards?” one guy asked him. Anyway did something in particular occur that made them stop offering the cut to the player?

Because naughty things could happen to the deck when naughtier people touch it.
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

No naughty people were here before?

I'm only guessing here...
I believe that people who had poker houses sought out cheaters to beat a game but upon finding them they found out that even though the guys were cheaters, 99% of them couldn't hop the deck decent enough to save their life so in order to retain the slug and to eliminate this problem at the same time, they made up an excuse that by having the players cut the deck it would slow up the deal also slowing up the cuts that the house would make. Being that this sounds so logical, no one ever questioned it; beside the fact that when you play at someone's else's establishment you have to play by their rules. Now upon other people who played and saw this, set up their places of establishment doing the same as well and now this letting the dealer cut the cards has become the norm. (Suckers manipulated into doing what the cheats want). Note: In the south there is another con some what like the above because cheaters who can't second deal normally use strippers in order to beat their vics. Being that the cheaters can't second deal, they have established the rule that the loser deal. What? That's right the loser deals. When did a loser ever get the right to do something first besides pay that money? All con in order to get that money. This con was established because the hustler was pulling strippers (9 cards) on the vics deal making him deal himself out of his money and if the vic had something to say about it, all the cheat would have to say is that, "hey you dealt the cards not me." (To the magicians this trick is known as the ten card poker deal). Respectfully, Doc |

Thanks Doc. Strange that it happened everywhere here sudden like. I thought some big scam had come to light perhaps, which caused them to change the procedure. Casinos move together when they do this kind of thing. There is only 460 casino’s in the USA I read which is not that many really. There is far fewer here I am not sure how many. The dealer cuts one handed still so the cards do still get cut.

Haveing the dealer cut is also VERY good if you pay off a crooked dealer....He can cut to his own crimp, step or jogged card
I don't think speeding up the game matters to the house because many poker clubs get their VIG based upon time, not the number of hands played per hour. Do casno games take a cut from each pot ??? I'm not sure because I don't play poker in casinos.

Speed.
Did you read my post about baccarat in Hong Kong? Pre-shuffled decks? People want to get to the point these days. Make me want to cry. It's snowing outside. First time this year. In March. Go figure. Jeff |

Not allowing the players to cut certainly makes the task of taking off bad-beat jackpots that much harder.

Thinking about it now, I guess it came here with the comps, just for speeding up the poker comps, to get them finished in a reasonable time. Here there were cash games only and no comps at all.
All formal cash games also used table deals here before the comps. That changed with the comps I think. At least there is a lot of games here now that use hand dealinng. Thanks anyway.

Tommy you're right they do this to definitely speed up the game cause depending on where a person plays sometimes the dealer will rake from the pot, in my case here in Canada they rake $5 from each half hour on a $1 $2 cash game.
This is why I prefer cash games or home tournaments where hand dealing is allowed! LOUIE/L |

At the Gardens here in SoCal, they rake up to 4 bucks a pot on games up to 100 buy in. I've won hands that put me in the red. In cases such as that, chopping the pot is preferable even when holding high pairs.
