Okay, I decided to go the handheld wireless mic and got a Shure PG 58. However, it is so sensitive that it makes way too much noise. You can hear extra noise when I take it out of the mic stand or even when I just move it around in my hand. Any help on how to eliminate this would be appreciated.
Thanks, Andy |

Andy,
There are a few things you can do to keep the mic from 'talking' when you remove it from the mic stand. First, it looks like from the picture of this mic I saw at Shure's site that the 'mute' switch is on the body of the mic within easy reach of your thumb. Simply click it off when you remove or slip it into the mic clip and click it back on once it is settled. Second, you could try a spring loaded mic clip for your stand. It looks like this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/M......3SOSWXXA This will allow you to move the mic in and out of the clip with less noise. Third, make sure you have a mic stand with rubber feet. This will deaden the noise made by the mic when you move the stand around. I actually prefer a tripod style mic stand as it is lighter and makes less noise when you move it. Also, it packs easier than one with a round, steel base. Fourth, try using a mic lanyard and you won't have to move the mic in and out of the stand at all. Check it out here: http://www.malloymodernmagic.com/freedom.htm Hope this helps!! David

Thanks David for the advice. I actually did three school shows today and the noise was not near as bad as it had seemed in my room where I rehearse. By the way, I was not sure how much I would like the handheld mic but after today, I will never go back to a headset or lav.

No problem! Glad to help.
Also, make sure that the 'low' setting on the mixer channel that you plug your mic into isn't up to high. If the 'low' setting is up too high this will cause a lot of rumble when moving the handheld. Sincerely, David
