What I was dreaming of doing was hiding an heart transmitter in or under a chair and me wearing the watch so I could monitor the heart rate of he who sat in that chair at the table. Don’t think it can be done though from reading this: ECG-Accurate Monitors with Chest Strap The most accurate heart rate monitors use a chest strap which fits snugly around your chest just below the breast. The transmitter detects the electrical activity of your heart just like an ECG. It relays this to a display, usually worn like a wristwatch, although some use earphones instead. It is important for the strap to maintain contact or you get wild readings. Pulse Monitors Without a Chest Strap These monitors work by detecting your pulse - usually by placing one or two fingers on sensor buttons. They cannot give you a constant reading of your heart rate, you have to take it on demand instead. They are also trickier to use than the chest strap monitors - cold fingers, etc. can give you no reading or wild readings. Got any ideas how to do it?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Are you joking?
if not, you could always give him a bracelet as a gift. bracelet should have built in pulse monitor, and you should have the receiver. Or maybe you should put the pulse monitor in something on your table and force your client to put his hand in/on it. that's just my thoughts. I don't think you can monitor the pulse from somebodies butt =) |

Cool idea. I think for getting pulse you would needed bare skin. If you could make table edge made of detectors, by placing hands or touching table at all you might get pulse. but it need to be probably more the 5 sec hold. Chair idea wouldn't work at all, or at least at that area, from all I understand. What if you would builded in the chair back, around heart hight one transmitor, another at tablr. That might work, if you use some kind of infrared detector.

Tommy,
Great job conjuring this idea. Unfortunately, a seat cushion wouldn't be able to obtain pulse rate. A metal conductor on the seat wouldn't work either, unless you prefer to play poker in the nude ;-). But let's think about this. Where might is a place that a player unknowingly touches with his bare skin? His hands. How about making a metal trim alongside the perimeter of the poker table, having sections designated to each player. This trim could easily be disguised as simply part of the furniture. Hell, make it 6 inches wide - someones bound to frequently rest up against it during a long game of poker. -G |
