Hello,
Is there a lighting program(like a cd) out there where I can make light designs on my laptop and then If I have a show at a theatre I can plug my computer into the lighting board and it does my light? could I time my light to the music? thanks, magic mike |

Ha ! Good one !
There are many programs avaialable , however, it is not that simple. But the ability to use your laptop to control the lights has you headed in the right direction. The unfortunate aspect of this is if you play different venues ( say on a tour ) you will need to match protocol for the venues dimmer system - in addition, if you want to use intelligent lighting, you will need a doggle that usually comes with the program to attach to the fixtures and your laptop - basically one side is USB and the other is DMX ( 3 pin or 5 pin ) Please keep in mind that just because you have control over the lighting rig it does not mean that they are easily programmed ! I, as well as many others, have spent numerous hrs learnig programs to control lights. This is a process and is not learned overnight Hope this helps ! SK

Yep, and then there's the little issue of hanging the lights themselves at the venue.
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine

Elation Lighting has a software/hardware package called Compu Live that is a PC-based lighting design and control system. I have only played with it, so I am really not the one to ask about its features, but the software is freely downloadable so that you can experiment with it. If you later add the hardware module, I think your designs will still be usable. It has a huge array of lights and effects to select from.
Look for the software here: Compu Live
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...
