I've been doing some nice numbers lately in BOR, and I am thinking of picking up James Munton's Instant BOR system. I bought a few of his other products and I am very pleased with both the content and the results. I listened to his Hugh Turley interview last nite on a 300 mile round trip drive, and brainstormed an idea that is going to be worth MANY times what I paid for the product. It's an excellent product and I highly recommend it.
HOWEVER... one of the items in his Instant BOR system is a Book of Quotes which purchasers- read laypeople- can use for a book test. I'm not sure I'm comfortable selling something like that to the general public. Is this actual exposure? I don't think you're actually selling it as a magic trick, so it seems to me that some people buying the book are going to find out the method without even wanting to know it. Does anyone using Munton's Instant BOR system have any feedback? Thanks! Terry Parrett |

I realize my description may not give enough to go on- I'd prefer to hear from people who have the system and can give me an honest answer- but if anyone else can give me an informed opinion based solely on the description, the website is http://www.magicsells.com/, and you can follow the link to the "INSTANT BOR SYSTEM" page. Thanks for any help!

Terry,
Thank you for the positive comments about the Turley interview. He shares some great ideas that I have not heard anywhere else. As for the Instant BOR System, I appreciate that this is not something that will appeal to everyone. I've received a few emails and PMs about this so perhaps I can explain. Yes! This is an actual book test that you perform during your show. The Instant BOR System contains an original book test routine called the Little Book of Quotes. As far as I am aware it works on a new principal. As you finish the routine, you ask the audience if they would like to know how it is done. Of course they say yes, and then you go into the pitch where you tell them that they can buy the special book and the secret after the show. I provide the script for the routine and the pitch which is done in a light-hearted fun way and generates a high percentage of sales. If you have ever done any BOR sales, you'll know that you get much higher sales if you can actually demonstrate the item you are selling during the show. I experimented with several products and the Little Book of Quotes generates huge sales. I include in the BOR System a very detailed guide to selling BOR. There is no other guide to selling BOR for magicians/mentalists that goes into such detail. The System includes the complete script and pitch and a CD-Rom containing the .pdf file to print your own books. I get mine done at Kinkos they cost about a dollar each and look great. For smaller quantities, it is easy to print these at home using your PC and printer. A great feature is the ability to customize the books and put your advertising info in them. So when people go home and perform the trick for friends and colleagues they are showing you info every time! Now, with regards to giving away secrets to the public, I do not give them away. People have to buy the trick after the show! Magicians have been selling magic tricks, books and kits after their shows for years. What I have done is find something much more appropriate for adult audiences. As I said before, there will be some who don't believe in making secrets available to the public and I understand their choice. What is interesting is that I do another book/magazine test immediately before I go into the Book of Quotes routine. Explaining how I do the second routine actually strengthens the first routine because the audience now has no way to explain how I did the first one! They assume that the first routine must have been real magic! Several years ago I bought an excellent book called How to Be a Fake Kreskin. It was a book written for the public revealing a bunch of mentalist and psychic-type stunts. Kreskin is a genius because he reveals magician's secrets, which reinforces the belief that what he is doing is real! But like I said, I completely understand those who are not comfortable selling items after their shows. They have made a decision to forego thousands of extra dollars each year and so I have to respect that... even if I don't agree! Best, James |
