Good luck trying to get people to watch a new magician in Vegas during a recession. It will be tought to survive in this economy thanks to the runaway inflation from the Fed.

Cris's only salvation in being a long term, popular magician (David Copperfield, Doug Henning) is to have all of his shows done LIVE. This will add credibility to his performances and talent and pave the way to doing a touring show. His present venue of staged, edited, camera trick performances will be short lived.
I see his next show is live. Let's see what happens.

The only part of that is how long will his "image" last?? He is over 40 now, does his current image cut it for today? In 2-3 years when ready to tour???
Copperfield changed image/style, watch his older shows and compare to today. Subtle changes indeed, but over time a lot. Doug H. tried to change (a little) but his image became dated (even if we magicians loved him for it ie. the flower child) B

Anybody notice how he is getting deep into caring about material objects. Every time he is on, hes got a new suv, motorcycle, sports car, house, boat..... and he seems to show them off to build himself up. Thought that is what talent was for.
I see him gone in the next 5 years or less. Hes in it for the money and fame... his show pukes this quite well every episode. Its not about the true talent or magic, it all about who he is. Caught a few of the latest shows.. still using the same old video techniques trick after trick. His overhead for paid stooges alone is impressive! Posted: Jul 26, 2008 4:13am ....oops! Left off my whole reason for posting other than being open about my opinion of the tv persona..LOL. I can see this live show being good, and hope it is. I hope that he isn't just another dancing bear in the industry and really takes the art seriously. I don't see it on tv.... but live is different. Not to mention the Cirque part of the act could stand alone. Someone mentioned a great point.... ticket sales are tough in vegas right now due to the economy. Another good point was made about a traveling live show. I could see that selling out in most cities. Arenas even. Freakin' ventriliquist has been selling out arenas. I have a friend working within the area and has heard impressive illusion stories for this show. |

Some more pics from the show have been added to the site. I must say MÉRÉDITH CARON is doing a great job with the costumes. I love the crow people, killer bunnies and the broken china dolls. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cirque costumes are amazing. I went to an evening talk on their costumes here in Montreal at a library, no less. There was a film on one of their designers and then the head of their purchasing for costuming did a talk, showed (and passed around) some actual costumes and headpieces. She also had some of their amazing sample books, one for each costume showing where, how much they bought, and the pricing for EVERY item that went into the costume. THEY do not skimp!!! Lace at $250.00 per yard, trim at $100.00 PER FOOT!!!, even the smallest of beads, an actual sample and all the specific details.
If only we, as performers, were as meticulous with our art and business! (Some are, it was certainly an inspiration, and something to strive for, for me!!!) B

Just a note... the theater he is performing in is very small. My suggestion is save your money and buy the cheaper seats. Trust me, they are not far from the stage at all. Ive seen carrottop in this theater a few times and there isn't a bad seat. Only 28 rows. Ive sat in front and in the back, and for magic, id choose the back every time in this theater. The front seats you are looking up and cant see the stage floor...I think you miss a lot up front.
I was really shocked to see that this show was being placed in this specific theater, especially being a cirque show. |

Cirque is known to do smaller shows, Criss does not work well to large theater's before the WWF theater in NYC he tried a larger theater and he did not like it. I am just a bit confused about his live tv show this week, uhhmmm isn't this what Copperfield did?

He was NONSTOP working, never taking a break. He's SO busy, I bet he wouldn't even HAVE time to read a post on here... He doesn't talk trash about how he's better than you or the next guy, but yet, you have the nerve to talk trash as if he voted you off the island. I cant tell you ANYTIME I have ever heard a layman talk about him and say "I won't watch him cause he uses E***ing" Its just us magicians that practice hard and complain cause we don't get our own show. and that's that --my two cents-- A.maze

Angel is popular because his clueless flock thinks he owns real magical powers. That is how his effects are presented. Case in point is last night. Copperfield at least incorporated a way to materialize out of the building implosion on the table set up outside. Angel suggested he survived the implosion because he's superhuman.

Copperfield always did things with class and style. Last nights special seemed like it was slapped together .. almost like "let's get this over with."
Steve P.S. What was the deal with the "picks" around his neck?? There is no mystery in that. Maybe they should have just given him a set of keys to wear. |

Geez, Steve, were you watching the show with me and I didn't notice you in the room? I was think exactly the same thing about the picks ... and he STILL didn't pick the first one!
Anyway, his flaunting of his car collection was uncomfortable for the viewer .... maybe he should be called Crass Angel. But you know what? In today's hip-hop environment of showing off your "bling" I guess that's what kids go for. There is no longer room for humility. And they called the 80's the "me" decade!! |
