Beans or no beans?

I vote: no beans. And as spicy as possible--otherwise what's the point?

No beans if you're putting it on a hot dog. Otherwise, I like the beans! (Then again, I'm not the spicy chili kinda guy so we obviously go down VERY different paths!)

If you don't regret eating it, it is not real chili.

With beans, and hot enough to do damage.
If you can pull it off in a biker bar without being violated by a corn dog, more power to you.

I enjoy good chili, be it with beans or Texas style with meat and sauce only.
I also enjoy spicy foods and hot foods but for me the heat should add to the enjoyment of the dish, not to be used as a macho "see what I can do" image maker (not necessarily anyone here but I know of too many people with that goal in mind).
As a chili enhancer I like to put a more than generous heap of Pico De Gallo on top.
Sometimes I like to put a handful of Frito's in the bowl before filling it up with chili.
Thanks Stoneunhinged, now I am drooling for some Chili Smile

I like it all. And whichever style I'm eating (there are so many) I wish I had a little of one or more of the other styles as well.

If chili don't have beans it's spaghetti sauce!

If chili have potatoes, you're in Ohio.

Well, for chili competitions, it's always NO beans. BUT...I like beans. My wife and kids don't really approve, well, my son does, because he loves making "that noise" and not having it involve his armpit.

With beans. Served with grated cheese, jalapenos, and chopped onions. Oh, yeah!

As a native Texan, I am accutely aware of the protest against beans in chili. But, as a foodie, I have to say that it just depends on what type of chili I'm amking. I could make you chili at every meal for a week, and have you never feel that you have eaten the same meal twice. So...I just gotta go with my mood.
