I also posted this on the Kid Forum..after 44 looks I thought I would post it here.
Over the years I have done some simple bird calls both by mouth and with "help". Last Saturday I was at a country jam and surprise surprise...a former international whistling champion joined in. Wow....I was amazed, delighted and impressed. Mary Frances was very humble in talking about her gift. Hopefully Mountain Music,(where the jam was held will get her C/D's in. I remember hearing a few whistlers on records or the old Sullivan Show... I am going out to listen to the birds... cue the whistling memories in my head... Anyone else been inspired by a whistler.and added it to your vent bits...(gives a whole new meaning to that Mother in the Rocker painting.... I plan on adding more whistling down the road..(months...years...???) to my family shows... Harris "off his rocker" Deutsch

My whistling is more in the range of bird calls..
I found a few c/d's on the subject and have ordered them through my library and inter library loan. Back when I worked at a camp I began doing the sounds, and got the kids wondering where they came from. During story time, they got clued in. Mary Francis when she was doing her calls moved her lips quite a bit..I am hoping I can add some more calls both ventriloquially and as M.C. bits.

Would you mind to list some source to learn these act? And where I can buy, if possible in online store.
I only can do bird calls with some kind of little block flute, which have a moving piston to change the pitch. Sorry I don't know how to discribe this thing properly! Thanks! |

I can actually whistle quite well, and can whistle in tune (which is always a "plus" for those listening). Also, if you get good at it, you can whistle both inhaling and exhaling...so you never have to stop. I don't know why I chose to get good at whistling, I guess I just think it's fun. However, it does amuse people when they hear you whistling Mozart at lightning speed for minutes on end without taking a breath...

Listening and practicing has been my only tune till now.
I have ordered a few C/D's but havent' had time to listen to them yet. They include: PUCKER UP THE FINE ART OF WHISTLING BIRDS OF AMERICA IN SONG AUDUBON, JOHN JAMES More birding by ear Walton, Richard K. Biding by ear Some people have given me references of folks that have included whistling in their shows, songs and movies.. You tube may also be a great resource. As I said this is something that I want to add to ..and inspired by seeing a world class whistler about a week ago. Finding things that sets us apart...whether it is yodeling, opera, imitations...soap opera like dialogs...is important to our art and individual bookings... Another thing I play with is vent without a puppet or object.... Harris.."whistling in the darK" Deutsch and cue the music...and no one will no I'm afraid...(mis-quoted from King and I)
