I hope they are against it. I did see Raveen many many years ago, but not in a church setting. I know how Hypnosis is done, especially entertainment wise. Knowing that, and understanding that, I personally don't think it's appropreate for a church setting or as a way to minister God's Word. I'm interrested in hearing others responses to this.
Oh, wait a minute. Sorry for jumping the gun. You are only asking what the church's opinion is on it. Well, I'm only a small pebble in the large body of christians that make up the church, but my personal opinion is,... hey is this going to be a trick question?(lol)

Are you talking about hypnosis as entertainment, as in a show in a church setting?
I used to do hyp shows for colleges and high school grad nights with the occasional corporate show thrown in. I also once was asked to do a combination hyp/magic show at a Jewish synagogue. Not one person went under. Even the Rabbi tried his best to bail me out by pretending to be hypnotized. Which Church? There are literally thousands and I'm sure some are vehemently opposed to hypnosis while others don't have an issue on it.
The Vatican has approved it for pain relief. I don't know what their stand is on it for entertainment purposes. A nice article were about hypnosis and religious belief http://hypnogenesis.com/pdurbin9.htm

Hypnosis as entertainment really doesn't have a place in churches...IMHO but not for the same reasons as some might. Churches need to get back to the Father's Business and not the Worlds. We need to be ministry centers instead of entertainment venues.
I wouldn't hesitate to bring someone like Tony Brent (or myself) into my church because I know that it would be a ministry opportunity. Yes, we will be entertained, but that is secondary to the main goal of ministry. Outside of having entertainment for dinners or special social occasions, entertainment for entertainment alone's sake doesn't belong in the church...but that's just my opinion. |

Terry is spot on in his comments about appearing in churches. Thinking of the church as another "market" is the wrong way to look at it. Even if you are asked to simply entertain in the church there's no way I'd attempt hypnosis. I don't even do hypnosis shows anymore anyway and the only reason I did the synagogue show was because they talked me into it. Believe me, it was uncomfortable!
