Whicever is at hand. I always use a pen when doing crossword puzzles, as a pencil suggests a lack of confidence.

Pen, ballpoint, Bic is my favorite.
Any color except black. Black is boring. Green is not boring. Double spaced, to allow for editing. A single line to delete, arrows, carats, more arrows. I do a lot of editing. And I carry one with me 89% of the time. Clipped to my shirt, but not in the pocket.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

General weapon of choice- .5 mm mechanical pencil or a .8 mm balck felt tip (Pencil is preferred). I use the extra fine point sharpies for some of my artwork and for making glass stencils. I love calligraphy pens and good fountain pens but their use is limited.
My handwriting is smaller than the type on my screen, I need to use fine points. Gwyd |

100% of the time I use a Dixon Ticonderoga 1388-2/HB soft, sharpened with an authentic class-room style, wall-mounted, hand-cranked, double-cylindered rotary sharpener.

Sharpies, baby! It's all about the Sharpies...
I often use "golf pencils" for unimportant scribbles as I have boxes of them for tricks using Billets. Oh, also I often use Mirado Black Warriors for drawing and sketching.
