Halfway into buying Okito boxes I stopped myself and thought... "maybe I should see what they can actually do first".
So I watched several YouTube clips of coin box routines and I didn't really see anything I wanted to do myself. Nevertheless, knowing myself I will forget this conclusion completely and order some boxes in a few days after reading more about them here. After midnight Visa use like always. I will then receive them and get disappointed like I seem to be with all props. I'm probably not a prop guy as I haven't bought one singe magic device of any kind that I have ever wanted to use, except for one of my wallets. I really feel that everything I have ever bought except for the plain coins and cards look like magic props. I feel stupid taking them out, like everyone will be thinking that I should have outgrown these magic kit things years ago. It's a different kind of magicians guilt than when doing cheeky sleights. Gaff guilt. I just can't deal with it. I have now realized that I need to have everything specially made so that it appears genuinely antique or everyday Norwegian. I need to find regular items first and then figure out how to alter them. This goes for both coins and coin purses and everything else.

I would look at a Lassen gaff primarily as Art which also happens to allow you to perform some great magic as well.

Well, Noobini... I tried.
But this thread is about the joy of gaffs. Perhaps you should start a new thread... 'All About Gaff Guilt'! GAFF GUILT??? Lighten up, bud... we'll all be dead in a hundred years. None of this is that important. I'll hand it to you, you did give me a good laugh GAFF GUILT! |

Hi Noobini,"
Well As I all ways say you just have to have "NO SHAME" And just do it! Or it shows in your Body Langage! Magicions should be great buffers! And be able to be BOLD! Most of the time if you don't think something is wrong the layman will not! |

I just bought a new beautifully hand crafted Magnetic 3 in 1 set made from 1923 Peace dollar coins from Auke van Dokkum - http://www.cupsandballs.nl . I bought it from him in person at MAWNY 2008 just this past weekend. If only you all had been able to see his collection of custom made coin gaffs in person; I was in awe at how gorgeous they all were. If I had the money I might have spent a few thousand dollars and bought the whole *** collection.

If I pull out any foreign coin or anything else they haven't seen before they will immediately let their hand shoot out to grab and examine. They may not even be suspicious. They will just go for it. That is what people that I know are like at least. The problem with all magic props is that in broad daylight up close, they look like props. Maybe not to magicians who are used to seeing them, but to regular people they do. In the case of the gaffs the problem lies mostly in even the matching ungaffed coins foreign appearance. But I agree that gaffs could be brought in after the initial examination. BTW those Auke van Dokkum coins do look lovely! Check out that HH set!

You must add UWC to your list of best Lassen gaffs. It is an amazing routine and a must for any collector of gaffs.

That would be another knock-off of Lassen's Triple Threat most likely. |

Anything Lassen is great...I'd love to have a Cerberus or UWC...I hear great things about both gaffs...

I must say that my favorite gaff is a c/s coin. It gave me great reactions and versatile routine. I like a shell too, but I put c/s ahead of it.

I love doing coins and do pure and gaffed routines. I do hopping halves, scotch & soda, triple spellbound, winged silver, coins across and many more along with several okito box routines with both boston and slot boxes. So yea go both ways, why not??????
