I'm working on the handling for "The Joker Folds Up" from Card College 5. The only problem is trying to find a box like he describes for the routine. I've had no luck finding one. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I guess that's his version of the "Signed Card to Box" effect. In that case, almost any box (preferably with a lid) in which you can put a card folded in quarters will do.
If you want to go pro, you can order John Kennedy's 'Mystery Box'. It's a little expensive, but absolutely superb. I don't know if they still have version I for sale, but version II is a piece of art, and it'll make your life easier. Hope it helps,

There's only one problem with that: in the Joker routine, you use a Joker signed by several people, and when the box is opened you can see your signature on the card that's folded face out. Can't do that with the Mystery Box (at least as far as I can tell).

Yep, you're right (although I guess some people managed to modify the box and change the (piece of) card that comes with it for a different one).
But I think you can find a wooden box like the one that Roberto uses, in almost any gift shop. I've seen them many times.

This is maybe not the direction you want to go in but, I just use an Altoids tin. Cheap and the perfect size.

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |

The box he is using would probably be called a Trinket box for earings or cufflinks or rings and such. Most craft stores would handle small boxes like this or gift and jewelery stores.
The 99 cent mint tin I use in my ToiBox routines would work perfectly. Plus you would have the advantage of showing the tin empty and examinable before and after the routine. Sorry to say the ToiBox DVD is still a work in progress. But watch for it in the future. |

Jon, you think this dvd will be out this summer. I love toibox and would love to see some more ideas on it, especially on dvd.

The box that Giobbi uses for :The Joker Folds Up" has a few unique attributes that are used to add to the deception in a very subtle ways in the detailed handling of his routine.
. The box is not hinged but rather has a separate top and bottom. , The top and bottom of the box are virtually identical in size and appearance. I seem to remember that I heard Roberto say that he found the box that he uses in an Italian luggage store. I have been searching for a small round box that meets these specs for several years without any success. |

Bugsy, thanks for letting me know. I've checked the same type places, but to no avail. I've actually worked out a handling using a small Altoids tin that, should someone wish to do so, can be examined.
