Does anyone have any good strolling DVDs recommendations? I really liked Party Animal by Matthew J. Dowden and that is the type of stuff I am looking for.

I didn't see party animal, but I use a lot of Sankey material in my strolling. You should also look into Paul Green's work.

I've just got Party Animal and I really have enjoyed it thus far. I don't indentify with all of Matt Dowdens performing styles, but I really do lvove the routines.

Plenty of Sankey's stuff has been tested over 100's over his restaurant roves, so you can be sure that it is quality material that will always asertain reactions. I highly recommend Sankey DVD's.

Dan Watkin's "Coin Man Walking" is designed for the strolling/walk-around performer.

I agree with the Sankey material too.

I should give some specific stuff shouldn't I!?

"Front Row Sankey" has quite a bit of material

"The Real Work on Restaurants and Bars" has a several good bits

"3 Ring Circus" has 2 effects I like - one of them is universal to every venue format, not to mention AWESOME

"Underground Jam" has a few fun ones.

"Public Transit" is a great effect if you don't mind doing the work.

-Enjoy

Where to begin on this "topic"...... Well first off, I enjoy "Party Animal" extensively. I have already added a few of the routines to stuff I am constantly performing. This DVD was sepcifcally made for the strolling performer - quick resets, easy to entertain, and fun.
Now some stuff to add to the list:

The Real Secrets of Magic vols 1 & 2 - David Stone
The Richard Sanders Show vols 1, 2, & 3 - Richard Sanders
The Garcia Project vols 1, 2 & 3 - Daniel Garcia
The Restaurant Magic of Dan Fleshman vols 1, 2, & 3 - Dan Fleshman
The Workers Series - Michael Close

I just realized that I could do this forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever... These are just a few DVDs that I have at home that are AWESOME. Use the search function as your friend and you can find more in depth answers. The list above is A LOT of material but could be a good place to start.

Cheers,

Justin

The New Bob Sheets DVD's are right up your alley:

http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=111&10

Volume 1:

Bunnies - Probably the best reaction trick in Magic. Bob's patter is hilarious, non-stop, line after line. You can do 5000 tricks but they want THE BUNNIES!
Intuition - Under impossible circumstances, spectators do the impossible and read each others minds! Typical Sheets, it's hysterical and practical.
Marked - Shocking and visual, Marked guarantees that your audience's eye-balls will be open wide. They'll all be leaving the Casino's after seeing this one!

Volume 2:

Triple Transpo - The classic CSB gimmick does the work for you. Bob has put together the DEFINITIVE handling. The gimmick comes and goes...invisibly!
Gotcha - Bob has fooled everybody including the experts with this staggering multi-phase version of the classic Triumph. Originally sold for $25!
Red Hot Mama - This routine should be called Melt Down because that's what happens to the spectator's brain. Bob's taken Whit Haydn's work into the Stratosphere!

Volume 3:

3 Ball Trick - Play HUGE, pack small. Just three balls, but this one will drive them over the edge. Non-stop visuals and the best work on the classic 3 Ball plot ever!
Flash Deck - Instant mind reading...just add water. Actually, there is no water except on the audience's brain. The deck does 95% of the work, you dial in the rest from home!
6 Tricks, 2 Minutes - It's more like 60 tricks in 2 minutes. The deck does all of the work for you. Action packed inside of a bizarre Sheets wrapping. Really funny, very visual.

the saddest are, "It might have been"

No there isn't.
The material on On the Spot isn't practical for strolling. The only good effect on teh entire DVD set is ReCapped.

Paul Green once sat and worked with me on the classic f%&$@ he really is a great guy. Coin man walking is on my future to buy list. Everyone seems to like Richard Sanders show and david Stone dvds. I took the school for scoundrels class with Whit Hayden Chef Anton and Bob Sheets and I will buy Bobs dvds because he is a nut and a great magician. Does Doc Easons bar magic, Extreme Possibilities Paul Wilson,Brainstorm John Guastaferro and Strolling Hands by Justin Miller have good or great strolling magic? I really liked Part Animal because of the live bar he was at. I love the real situation stuff not that boring L&L stuff, sorry but I had to say it. Thanks for all the dvd ideas fella's.

How about Mark Jenest's "Miracles While You Wait"? Very practical walk around and restuarant magic.

David Stone's Real Secrets of Magic DVD is a great starting place if you are looking for information about performing strolling magic. There is tons of real world advice and it's a very entertaining DVD. The routines he teaches are not wildly creative or original, but his performances are top notch.

John Pilotzi gave the link for Paul Gordon's DVD set from L & L Publishing. Here is a direct link to his site:
http://www.paulgordon.net/magiciansonly.html

I recently purchased some of Paul's material and I would like you to consider doing the same. I find his approach, and follow through to be very consistent with my own attitudes about Strolling Magic. His material is interactive and full of impact. Watching Paul work a crowd is a real lesson. I am using some of his repertoire in my own work.

My highest recommendation!

Enjoy the search--and Paul Gordon's stuff.

Respectfully,

Paul Green

I second 'Front Row Sankey'. I use his Pheonix effect all the time and get great reactions.

I just picked up Mark James 'Supercharged Classics', which is great because he gives you full routines with patter.

I also have Paul Green's 'In the Trenches', lots of great material but I don't use any of it. Seems like it's better suited for parlor ?

To quote JustinVisible:

"The Restaurant Magic of Dan Fleshman vols 1, 2, & 3 - Dan Fleshman"...

Justin, you are right....just like Stan Musial of St. Louis Cardinal fame....Dan Fleshman is "THE MAN" in St. Louis.....an amazingly talented magician who has been in the trenches making a buck doing magic for decades.

Dan's tricks, routines, advice and experience are well worth paying attention to.

I think he is one of the most underappreciated close-up magicians in the world.

If you ever meet him, you will know what I mean....and oh, by the way, have him show you his coins to glass routine and his version of Red Hot Momma.

I think that strolling with DVD's could be a fine idea -- find out what kind of magic the table wants, slip a DVD into your laptop and head for the bar while the video performance earns you tips. Instant reset and an incredible repretoire!

Guess you could use a PhotoFrame also or a portable player, but a computer could display a menu, ask for tips and print out a tax receipt.
