THE INCREDIBLE DIAMOND BROTHERS

Written by - Erich R. Diamond & Gabriel S. Diamond
Harvard University - Cambridge, Massachusetts - Copyright 2008

An amalgam of tried & tested pieces of mentalism and bizarre magical concoctions. Strictly designed for the performer with a desire for the unconventional & occasionally disturbed presentations of magic & mind phenomena. These routines are just that. This is not an outline of a mentalism or magic show. Though if you wish to use these effects in a complete performance, you are of course entitled to do so.

PREVIEW OF SERIES COLLECTIONS TO COME
(each collection will have 5 separate books released in succession)

BOOK 1 - STRANGE OCCURANCES IN THE EVERY DAY WORLD
What’s on the Menu for Book 1:
- Mind Champion:
As a demonstration of his superb mathematical and mind reading skills, the mentalist asks a member of the audience to hold up a dollar bill from his pocket. He is told to fold it in half width wise until it is in quarters. The mentalist hands the man an empty coin envelope that he is to place his dollar into and keep until the end of the effect. Moments later, the performer starts to write various random numbers vertically on a sheet of paper attached to an easel. He then informs the audience that these random numbers match the serial number on the gentlemen’s bill in the audience. He of course adds the two letters that go with all serial numbers. The man in the audience is told to remove the envelope from his pocket and read off the serial number. It of course matches perfectly.
Moving on with the routine. The performer asks the audience to add the predicted numbers together to reach one single two digit number. This is done (say the number is 46) and noted on the paper as a total. He then informs the audience that he will, within just a few seconds do something absolutely amazing. He picks up a large marker board with 16 separate squares on its face. Very quickly he writes in 16 different numbers in random positions. This all done in literally a matter of moments.
Again praising his incredible mathematical skills, the performer proceeds to tally up all the numbers in the vertical columns, they all equal the totaled serial number sum of 46. Then all the numbers in the horizontal columns, all equal 46. Then diagonally, all 46. Then the 4 corners, yes all 46. Then any combination of 4 connecting squares, you guessed it, all equal the number 46. He displays literally 50+ combinations of 46 he comprised in just a few seconds. His skills are surely none to be challenged.
As a proof of his incredible mind tapping skills he reaches for an envelope sitting on a nearby table (or can be held by an audience member), he asks someone to open it up revealing a short letter outlining everything that took place and a large red circled two digit number at the bottom of the letter. 46!

This is a working routine using the classic magic square with a lot of extra twists. The entire amazing routine can last anywhere from 5-10 minutes.

- Mad Lib Mania:
The performer asks several audience members to participate in a larger than normal game of the ever popular children’s activity, Mad Libs! Various words are collected and inserted into a jumbo size mad lib sheet resting against an easel. When all the words are in the blank slots, the performer proceeds to read the typically hilarious combination of nouns, adjectives and verbs aloud to the audience.
Little does the audience know, but sitting idly by on a nearby table is a large manila envelope. Another audience member is instructed to break the seal and remove the contents. They remove a large sheet of newsprint paper, similar to that which the performer used to scribe the chosen words on. It is of course an exact copy of the hysterical paragraph with EVERY single chosen word in the proper places!

The great thing about this routine is that you can do it over and over with different results each time. No Stooges - No Pre-Show - No Pumping - Nothing Added or Taken Away

- Blinded:
The mentalist briefly discusses the sometimes dangerous avenues magicians and performers take to please their audiences. These would of course include the infamous bullet catch, various escapes, and other equally hazardous feats. Of course fate will be tempted this evening, although instead of death being the final outcome, it is blindness. A sure end to most performers careers. The performer proceeds to unveil a large spinning platform on a table top, on top of the platform, eight large cans of black spray paint.
Only one can holds the paint, this is demonstrated by the performer on a nearby sheet of paper. The rest of the cans have been emptied of all their paint. These too are tested. An audience member is invited up to mix the cans while the mentalist turns his back as much as they wish, making use of the spinning platform to add further confusion to the effect.
When he turns back around, the audience member is told to uncap one can at a time and spray the contents into the performer’s eyes on his call. You can guess where it goes from here, the lucky performer dodges each “bullet” of blinding toxic paint until only one can is left. Of course, it is the full can.

This routine like most Russian roulette routines can be played totally serious or hysterically funny. Bits of business and funny lines are included in the patter.

This is a make at your home effect, which would cost no more than $12 - $18 to make. And is 100% Safe!
But still not recommended for those under 18

- Spare Change:
Everyone always carries a little spare change in their pockets. The magician asks a few people from the audience to gather some lose change from their pockets. Once done, a single person is selected and used for the experiment. The magician examines the change and picks out a quarter mixed amongst the lose change. He instructs the person holding it to make use of only the quarter in this effect. He is told to place the quarter into one of his hands, and the remaining change can remain in the other hand, or if he prefers he can add a little of it to the hand which holds the quarter. Either way all they have to do is know which hand holds the quarter.
From here the performer explains he will attempt to divine which hand holds the quarter only. Sure other change may be in the hand with the quarter, but there is only one actual quarter. He takes hold of the person’s wrists and pauses a moment and says “Left”. The spectator opens his left hand and sure enough, it holds the quarter. This is repeated as many times as the magician likes, proving him 100% correct each and every time.
- No Sleights - No Pre-Show Work - No Stooges - No Magnets - No Nonsense-

- Random Objects:
Three audience members are invited onstage to participate in a demonstration of body language and people reading. They all display something personal they have on them. For example - the first women shows her wedding ring, the second man offers his cell phone, and the final women displays her lipstick. (you can use 3 men, 3 women, 2 men & 1 women, etc.) They state their names and what they are willing to use for this experiment. The mentalist instructs them to, amongst themselves, swap items so that each of them holds someone else’s personal belonging. They are to place these items in their back pockets or someplace convenient, but out of sight from the mentalist. Thus confusing the magi and making his job that much harder.
The performer will now proceed to divine through certain micro-signals and body language (and perhaps some minor cold reading) which participant holds which item. Of course all 3 items are predicted perfectly by the performer, and rightfully returned to their respective owners.
The best part of this routine is that it can be done virtually anywhere and requires Nothing by you. And of course, this form a pseudo-psychometry uses no envelopes, no bags, no markings, and no switching or even touching of the items in play.

??? WHAT CAN YOU DO IN BOOK NUMBER 2 ???
- GIVE A DISTURBINGLY ACCURATE READING TO A PERSON YOU CAN NOT EVEN SEE -
- PERFORM A CLEAN, GIVE AWAY BOOK TEST WITH ORDINARY COMIC BOOKS-
- TOSSED OUT DECK WITH BORROWED CARDS- AND A LOT MORE!

No I just caught this outline. I hear the two do really go to Harvard and are planning on a series of books. I've been asking everyone if anyone knew anything, and it turned up nothing of course. I'll let you know if I hear anything.
