Can someone tell me the name of this packet trick and who it is credited to? It uses six cards all the same except for different color backs. Three are red and three are blue. They are arranged red blue red blue..etc. You show the cards face up and ask a spectator to select one of the cards. If they choose the top or bottom card then you simply lay that card on the table and go into a flustration count. It appears that they selected the only card with a different color back. If they choose any other card then you move all the cards above their selected to the bottom of the stack and lay thier card on the table and then go into the flustration count.

This sounds like 8 Card Brainwave and I think from memory it was by Nick Trost. It is definately on the Michael Ammar's Easy to master card miracles dvd's. I think it is volume 1 but I could be wrong.
Hope this helps. |

Perhaps you mean 8 cards and you are missing that 2 card detail? In any case check out the Nick Trost book as it was recently republished by H and R.

I imagine you could use any even number of cards to do this trick...im not familiar with nick trosts effect but I thought someone above said it did not use a flushtration count??? I will definately check out nick trosts book though. I originally purchased this trick at hocus pocus magic shop from irv furman in phila, pa. he called it back to the future. however I've came across another trick called back to the future that wasn't anything like the one I purchased. so I was wondering what this trick was originally named and who it was credited to.

Yes, you could use 6 cards if you so wished, but it's usually performed with 8. That is if it is the Nick trost trick and from your decription of it,it seems very likely to be. The move in it, if you could call it that, is known as the olram subtley.
Anyway, you can check Youtube and see the Trost 8 card trick being performed. Then you'll know for sure if it is the same trick or not. |

Its a brainwave trick....try using a hamman(spelling may not be correct) count but arrange the cards 3 red then 3 blue

I have this effect, and it is not eight card brainwave by Trost, with which I am familiar. However, it is effectively the same thing, but uses 6 cards, each with a color dot on its face. It employs the Olram Subtlety as well. I can look up the name for you tomorrow, if still desired. It is not bad, as there seems something inherently fair about the cards with simple color dots.

I looked at the youtube video of trost's brainwave 8 and it looks a lot like it however the effect I purchased uses 6 cards all the same not different cards. the only thing different is the color of the backs. it very well may be a variation of trost's. if anyone knows it as another trick credited to someone else please let me know. thanks again everyone. I'm new to this site and I absolutely love it.

Ryan- I found my instruction sheet tonight. The effect is called "Dots Impossible" and the instructions are copyrighed 12/91 by Al Cohen, the legendary owner of a wonderful magic store in DC. His store was a great place in which to spend a lunch hour.
