Okay, so I saw this new packet effect for sale at MJMagic.com and watched the demo and... cool trick. I really like this, actually.
http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/a-new-tric......185.html But $44!?! From what I can see on the demo, it doesn't look like anything revolutionary is happening here in terms of gimmicks or technique. Anyone have this and care to comment on it?

I agree with you ! The trick is a little overpriced. It is sold 24 Euros in France, which is currently about 40 bucks.
It is unfortunate that the currency exchange is that bad. 5 years ago, the trick would have been sold at $ 20.00 retail. ( $1.00 = 1.08 Euro at the time. Now $ 1.00 = 0.64 Euro cents. Do the maths... ) ( BTW, 5 years ago, the gallon of gas was $ 1.50 ) |

This is a great trick!! Catch it on sale at Hocus Pocus when they run their GREAT 25% off sale.
You can get this effect for around $33.00 when on sale at Hocus Pocus Magic. |

I bought "Card Warp" for $2.00 back in the 70's. This seems awfully high, but it *is* a good trick, and it seems to be in line with gas prices.

Sorry but this price is completely unjustified. Look at the market. Most packet tricks are sold for $10-$20. This is a very, very good trick. But it's just too expensive. Shame they did that.

Yeah, I sort of like it too. At Penguin with their discount it's $34, but I agree that that's still a lot for a packet trick. Like you, Cameron, I can't see that anything super revolutionary is going on here, although I would like to hear from someone who has it if there's something not-so-obvious about it that warrants the price.

Just my opinion, it's ok, more suited for a magazine write up.

I agree, but people who read magazines and books will already recognize the optical monte move...

Not for a magazine write-up....it is too good and too many special cards

I woke up this a.m. to find that my brain had been stewing on this and pretty much worked out all the handling and gaffs (or, at least, the gaffs that I think are used). If it's done the way I think it's done, it really is quite nice -- relatively examinable at the end, and a thing I hate about some packet tricks (extra cards appearing in mid-routine) doesn't really bother me here because of the logic of the trick.
The Mayette Magic packet tricks, also from France, are marketed here at a much lower price than this trick. I guess the pricing can always be chalked up to the old "keeping it out of the hands of the merely curious" wish, but I could see this doing okay if these guys hooked up with, say, the guys at Fun, Inc. and manufactured it in larger numbers. But I guess money wise, maybe it's better for them to sell it in Europe and accept that the numbers here will be smaller. |

If they sold one, I'd be surprised.
