I am planning on going to Boulder Colorado in 2 weeks. I have never performed there I could use some help please. I have two questions and any insights that other performer could give me would be a great help.
1. Is there a lot of magicians performing currently? I have another act I could do but would prefer to do magic. 2. I know for act such as fire you need insurance. Does anyone know if you need insurance for magic shows? Thanks in advance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

You could ask them directly;
http://www.bouldercolorado.gov/index.php......mid=2184 If that link isn't working try http://www.bouldercolorado.gov and just look down the left hand side for the "contact us" link. I don't know the answers myself, but I did ask them and I'll let you know if I hear anything.

I live in Boulder (and, occassionally perform on the mall)
For a magic act, you generally do not need a permit although amplified sound is verboten, anything with fire or knives or that could possibly endanger an audience requires a (free) permit. You just need proof of liability insurance (with the city of boulder named as an additional insured). Performers of the US offers a Boulder certificate as one of the most common ones. If you have any question, speak to Ellen Cunningham 303.413.7315, she is the city point of contact for permits etc. Kenneth Lightfoot used to perform here regularly, but he seems to be on the road now. There are some great acts--zipcode man, for example--there are a /few/ magic acts, but the mall is still dominated by jugglers and musicians. Please drop me a line when you arrive, I'd love to see your show and buy you lunch! All the best |

I don't work with fire or knives either, but I have liability insurance (through performers of the US)
I think the real question is, in this (litigious) day and age, what does not having liability insurance cost you. Also, it's a must for some of my regular clients. |

Good point, if I get to the point where $200 isn't a staggering amount, I'll look into it.

Problem with the book is it's part of a series and you have to dive in and presume you're going to figure out who these people are during the run. But the descriptions of Key West (at least circa mid-80's) sounded wonderful.
