What do you do when a spectator gives you a new government made quarter to use? Do you think newer Cigarette thru quarters should be made with a special design to fool spectators?

Now that the government is throwing a curve to magician's, I keep a drilled "New Issue" in my pocket. Just in case!
Cheers!

If this is a trick that you do often, you can have a new issue coin made, I recomend Todd Lassen, he does very nice work. If you get a new issue made, you can just never show the back.

Living in Australia I don't have that problem, our coins are all alike (on a sour note though, all our bills are different colours, sizes and are made out of plastic!) I agree with Stanyon and dlcarr that just getting a gaffed coin to match should do the trick, in the meantime be ready to go into a nice coin flurry with the borrowed coin and just don't mention the cig.

If you don't know or aren't comfy using a drilled quarter. These are 2 outs that can be used: 1) tell the spectator "I can't do it with the new ones, they are harder than the eagle backs(anti-counterfeit, whatever), do you have one of those?" If he replies no, 2) pull out a pocket full of eagles and say "I do........pick one!" Believe it or not it actually works and sounds remotely feesable when they think about it. Admittedly I've only done it one 'cause I forgot about the new quarters

Remember that although there will ultimately be 50 different quarters, only the reverse (tails) sides will be different. All of the faces will be identical (no date!!).
So . . . if you do a cigarette through quarter that only shows one side of the quarter, make sure it is the face side. Then you only need two gaffs -- an old-style "tails" coin and a new-style "heads." I have even toyed with having a double-headed new quarter made up for coin in bottle so that I can "borrow" a quarter and not worry about the new style coin's "tails" side betraying the effect. 0pus |

But, what side does the cigarette penetrate first? Tails! Very hard to disguise the "work" on George's head.

You can always give them a disgusting look and slap them on their head and demand for the old quarter

I usually tell them that it doesn't work with the new stae quarters due to how cheaply they are made. This has always worked for me!

I do the exact opposite!! I say that the new one's are reinforced and that the old ones have a weak spot in it. Either one is a perfectly good out.

On my DVD "Tied" I tip a very good way around this. You could also search some of the archives here just do a search I think I tipped it here first.
