Once at one of his Lounge shows (in the 80's), I wanted to hear 'Mumblin' Guitar', a really obscure Didley. I remembered from a previous show I had seen he was joking with a guy in the crowd who was requesting a song and he said "Write it on a $5 and send it up..."
Anyway I took a $10 and wrote the song title on it with a marker and sent it up. He stopped...read the note and said...Ladies and Gentlemen, here is a man who truly understands Classical Music and went into the tune...after finished he looked at me and said "OK, you get one more!" haha. Bo was always THE Man. RIP, a shave and a haircut for Mr. Bo.

One of the original, old school people who knew what it meant to be good at their craft, be a great performer and knew how to make an emotional connection with their audience. Not so different to what most of us on here would kill to achieve.
Regardless of whatever medium we work in, we all ought to strive for the same goals. I'm only 32 and know that I sound like an old (insert your chosen expletive) but there's nothing in this easily accessible, easily packaged age that will ever have any longevity over somebody with such a complete knowledge of what they're doing as somebody like Bo Didley had without ever appearing for it to be a hardship for him. I adore my music and I am so glad that I was born in a time where I could be around where people like Chick Corea, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder were creating new works. Music never dies, it's always there and never disappoints. Bo contributed to that magnificantly. Ian |
