I was talking with some old mates yesterday and they remembered how I'd hypnotised a girl some 30 years ago.
To save time: 1)I was in a hotel with my fellow band members. 2)one of the band members told this girl I was a hypnotist up from London (500 miles away) 3) I absolutely noticed that she, merely by hearing this, went....'gooey' would be the best description. 4) I'd had a couple drinks so I started doing the business (just for a laugh) 5) the 'business' I mentioned above was rubbish, didn't have a clue what I was saying but acted accordingly to what I believed a hypnotist might say. 5) She went out like a light 6) whilst everyone seemed highly impressed I can honestly say I remember feeling terrified. 7) It gets a bit hazy to be honest but y'know, I acted as if I was bringing her back and... back she came. I got such a fright that I didn't go near hynosis again for years. Anyway, as the heading in my posts says: HYPNOTIC STEPS. Although I didn't know what I was doing I can clearly remember the girl, being TOLD that I was a hypnotist looking as if she was ready to drop (possibly a somnambulist of course). What I want to know is: would you accept that the first step of hyopnosis is expectancy on the part of the sitter? And are there other steps and what are they 'in your mind'? thanks, bobser ps: I recognise that a preson can slip into hypnosis at any time (like in a movie or driving)but here I'm talking about the steps involved when a hypnotist is present, and has the intention to hypnotise.

Expectancy is great but is not essential to hypnotize. However if you are doing a stage show make sure they know you are coming. Get expectation and everything else on your side. One to one, expectancy can be created in a few seconds. Sometimes just saying you are a hypnotist is enough. They expect it.
Fascination is very welcome too. Anthony

I think the first step is "intention". That is the "hypnotist" intends to hypnotise. The second step is when the subject accepts that intention and sort of creates an unconscious contract with the hypnotist.
Also heightened emotions render people more suggestible which would explain her going "gooey". Another factor would be what the person believes about hypnosis. I actually use the fact I started as a stage hypnotist when I do corporate trainings. It makes them more receptive to the changes in behaviour I am attempting to install in that they talk about me weeks before I actually do the training. |

I would say expectation is not the most important thing but it does help.
In the process of an induction it can be very helpful for the subject to expect and even feel like they need to be put under though it is not a necessity |
