Hi,
This summer I will be visiting Chicago for the first time in my life. My girlfriend lives there and wants to take me out to see a magic show, but she doesn't know where to take me. I was wondering if any of you fellow magicians know of any good shows or restaurants that have a good magician. I think it would be neat to see some close-up at a restaurant or parlor, but I have no idea where to begin looking. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance, T.J. |

Anyone?
I can't find much online about what restaurants have good close-up or what theaters have decent shows in Chicago. Thanks again, T.J. |

Well if you want to see one of the best close up restaurant workers go to Wheeling and a restaurant called "Hackney's" on any thursday night. Jimmy Krzak is one of the true hidden treasures in Chicago. He worked Schuliens for about 30 years before it closed.
South of the city is a place called James Joyce I belive and you can find Ernie Spence there doing bar magic. You will NOT regret both ideas if you like magic. There may very well be others, but these are 2 stand outs in my mind.

'Magic Chicago' is the first Wednesday of every month at the City Lit Theatre. Also, there is a different show on the 4th Wednesday of the month at the La Costa Theatre. The line-up changes for both and they both begin at 7:30pm. Granted, if you aren't around over either of these Wednesdays, this doesn't help much.
Also, as mentioned above, there is 'Supernatural Chicago' at 7:30pm Fridays and Saturdays. There are a few other shows that I've heard of, but off the top of my head, I don't know the details or if they are still running. The March 2008 issue of MAGIC had an article about the Chicago magic scene, so perhaps that will give you a few ideas. Be sure to also check out the numerous magic shops in Chicago...there are several. Enjoy... Chicago is home for me and a great place for magic!

Thank you so much for all the help everyone. It's much appreciated.
Looks like I have some decisions to make. I'll check out the March issue of MAGIC as well...I think that will help a lot. I'm excited to see what the magic shops in Chicago have to offer. Thanks again, T.J. |
