I'm curious what others think:
Magic is not as common in Las Vegas anymore. Do you guys think the magic revue show will make a come back? If so when, and what will it be like? Just wondering what others think, and how they can back up their predictions.

I think it will indeed. magic has not vanished from vegas. Instead there has been this sort of abscence a little bit. Wioth Sigfried and Roy not performing any more, there is a vacancy for a large and huge magic production show to fill that spot again. This is what I think Criss Angel and Cirque are trying to do with criss' new "Believe" show. Only time will tell if they are successfulor not. I hope they succeed because other casinos will almost be forced to follow the lead. It happens all the time. This could only be good for magic shows in vegas.

Although Vegas has always big on magic, I would like to see more "Magic Theaters" in the big cities. Just like there is Greg Frewin Theater and the ones in Branson.

I think it would be just as nice to have a permanent magic show somewhere other than Vegas.

The thing with Branson and Niagara and Vegas is that they are tourist cities and thrive on tourism for the economy to survive....you would need to put it into a city similar to that....I don't think anyone could open a magic theatre in a random city like Kansas City or Pittsburgh for example...

It's very tough, ask Greg Frewin - he is a perfect example, but he worked hard and I am glad to see him get rewarded. Very glad!

As for Criss, nothing personal, but I really don't see the show being that successful, it will have its run and it's time, but I don't see it being a long term success, who knows though.....I do hope it works out for him.

Michael,

If the show was just put on by Criss himself, I might be more inclined to say and think the same thing. However, because cirque is so heavily involved in the show and have money invested in it, I just can not see this flopping. No cirque show has ever flopped. Not to say this won won't, I just do not think it will. Only time will tell for sure though. Wait and see. =)

Oh, I really don;t think it will flop, I just don't think it will be a magic show forever...or at least not the same performer....there is a reason that Criss Angel's name isn't in the title of the cirque show....

Who knows, I could be dead wrong, but I have heard many of 'clauses' in there contract, I am sure some are heresay but some I know are true...and it is to protect both parties.

I do hope it works out for both Cirque and Criss..., don't think I am hoping for it to flop....but the word might not be flopping...they could very well re-write the show if it doesn't work out...

I for one would love to see another venue for close-up/parlor performers in Vegas. Unfortunately, the Magical Empire was long gone before my first visit. Wasn't there a rumor a few months ago about a magic-themed casino/resort?

I think that things are coming and going and coming back again. Before Las Vegas was the city of magic it was the city of revues with entertaining singers (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin...). Then Las Vegas became with magic shows the city of magic, as the singers "disappeared". Afterwards there was and is the circus aira and music show were coming again to las Vegas (Celine Dion...).
Time will pass and magic will become again the highlight of Las Vegas.
Maybe in 10 or 20 years, but in the meanwhile there'll be always a little bit of magic in Las Vegas.

Oliver.

The watchword in Las Vegas is “big”
big buffets, big hotels, big casinos, big shows.

Caesar’s Magical Empire was just fantastic…
lots of little venues/shows in a “big” huge space.

And….big is expensive!!!
Either four-walling or picked-up by the casino,
the tab to keep a big show running is exorbitant.

So….. the show either has to pull in tons of gamblers,
or pull in crowds to pay for itself and break even.

The odds of either of those are…..well, Vegas odds.
So a lot of shows run their course then close.

If someone who loves magic --and has deep-pockets,
decides to bankroll a new space or show,
we’ll be back in the bright lights again.

They always toss new/different stuff against the walls,
and see what sticks.... and makes the city $uccessful.

My thoughts,
Walt
