I was going to ask Doug this directly, but decided to ask this in the open forum instead. But Doug, I still need your input.
It gets pretty hot down South here in Memphis. At our "Big One Flea Market" I have the option to be outside between 2 air conditioned buildings that also have vendors for about $20 more. I've worked this flea before, but I've always been outside. And during the summer inside the tent it's probably 120 degrees, and outside 95 degrees with the sun beating down making it feel like 120. Inside the buildings they are packed full of vendors and the aisles are crowded most of the day. They seem to be shuffled through because of the crowd. But I sure would rather be in the air conditioned buildings than in the heat. Is there much of a difference between inside or outside at the end of the day, besides the sunburn? Rappel |

While I am not in the Zibit business, it is something I'm considering. I will say that I greatly dislike working outside for exactly the reasons you mention. When a client wants me to do a birthday show in the backyard ... in San Antonio ... on a Saturday afternoon ... in June, I explain to him or her why it would be soooo much better to do the show in the air-conditioned living room.
My thinking is that if the flea market patrons are cool and comfortable, they will be MORE inclined to pay to see your zibit. But if Doug or others think differently, I will defer to their greater knowledge. See ya! Joe L.

All markets and crowd movement differ...just try it both ways.
I think the more cramped it is the less you'll make though. I prefer outdoors personally but for sensible reason except it's ususally more open for banner visuals.. Go to Sams Club and nail an Industrial Fan...put a block of ice in fron to of it.

Outside always..., and nighttime is the right time.... Flash is CASH....
Just from experience at fairs, not flea markets, outside you usually have more selling time. More people are outside. Tough it out man... You ain't pitched until you stood in the rain, sleet, snow, blowing dust, swatting skeeters and sweating like a warthog in the sun... |

I guess I'm going to bring the bottle of sunscreen and a fan next weekend. I sorta knew what the answers would be from the pro's. The fair I did a few months ago made me so fricken dark by the end of the run, my skin looked like my "Strange Thing"!!

Rapped,
I live in the Texas Panhandle and have had a bit different experience. I work inside and have found that my business picks up 4 fold when a crowd congregates in front of my booth and traffic is interrupted. At my market, the outside area is just too large to stop traffic. Inside, it seems like fishing. When you get a nibble and someone comes in, the look on her face will bring in more. They seem to start "schooling," almost like a feeding frenzy. For example, if we have 50 viewers in an hour, forty of those might come in two ten minute blocks. It is an amazing thing to witness. It is just a ton of fun. BTW, I have found that a small portable sound system doubled my income. Peace, Parson

Turning a tip, always depends on stopping traffic, and having a little space for them to congregate. Too much space, it's lost. Too little space, they all just keep pushing through. When other folks see traffic stopped, and all those eyes focussed on the talker, they stop too, to see what's going on.
It helps to be set up in a place where everybody isn't hurrying. I agree with Doug, try it both ways. Wart hogs don't sweat. Neither do pigs. That's why they like cool mud. It's their refrigerant. See the animal that won't sweat in this hot sun! Right here, right now!
