I remember seeing a small park in Midtown Manhattan, about the size of my living room, with a big sign reading "Designated quiet area"

In St. Andrew's, Scotland, there is a street sign for "Butts Wynde."
It was the pathway (or wynde) where the barrels (called butts) were rolled down to the boats in the harbor. Wynde is pronounced to rhyme with mind.
