Hi there,
is anybody willing to share a romantic professor's nightmare or a romantic rope routine? Two friends of mine are getting married and I'm performing a 15 minutes magic act at their wedding all based on romantic\ funny (still about love though)tricks and wanted to add a rope routine but haven't come up with a decent presentation yet. thanks! |

They are "tying the knot" you could do some knot effects. You could also tie them together?

I don't know the routine you are speaing of, but Daryl's "acrobatic knot" has the knot jumping from one rope to the other.
There is a plethora of similar knot moving tricks that Pavel just came out with. I reieved his new DVD last week, and he does have some great new tricks.

I’d suggest taking a step back,
and looking Symbolically at the “meaning” of an effect, then putting a routine and presentation together which then supports that Archetypal (if subconscious) meaning. “Professor’s Nightmare” uses three ropes, not one or two, and this is to celebrate romance and marriage, not a “three way”, so you’ve got too many ropes to do the Prof Nt. “Professor’s Nightmare” is about the unequal-becoming-equal, again not about romance or marriage, you want something about “two as one” or “the blending of hearts” or even “tying the knot”. So a double “Linking Rope”, or a “Blendo Ropes”, or even “Cut & Restored”, would more organically fit your theme. By going back to “what’s this about” with any basic effect, you don’t end up swimming upstream “meaning” wise. I once did an “Egg Bag”, but used a ruby-crystal Heart, rather than an egg, for a wedding theme with great success, talking about how some hide their feelings, some open their hearts to others, etc. Best of luck! I was thinking that it's a pity that "tying the knot" has no meaning at all in Italian (Im Italian BTW)so I couldn't use this expression to play with the concept of weddings but I have just realised that in Italian "to cut the rope" could mean to escape so this is really something I can play with and I can build around this concept a short but miningful routine. Something along the husband might sometimes feel like "cutting the rope" (= escape from the wife)but she will surely be able to restore everything and so on. I could still finish with professor's nightmare because the smallest rope could symbolize a child.
what do you think? |

The cut and restored fits, it’s a natural, and your Italian take on it should be fine.
While in Prof Nt the short rope *could* symbolize a child, you need to look at the meaning of the whole effect, three different lengths blending into one length… unless you have the wife getting taller and the kid growing up to college age, it still does not make any symbolic sense. I would stick with the romance of the event, and not predict the next twenty-years. BTW, it is considered bad-form to cross-post exactly the same information in different forums on the Café. Best of luck, Walt |

Ok here are a rough translationin english of a rutine I did at a wedding here in Swweden. The basic effect is the proffesoers nightmare starting with three equal ropes that become unequal and is again made equal tied to gether and magicly fuses together one by one.
What's so special with love, with marrige? few things are more inportent then these three things (show three ropes as equal); Love, respect and hapiness (count as you talk). Some say that one part is more inportent than others. for some respect is more importent than happiness (showing the short rope) and some say Love is more important than being happy (showing the long rope) But for marrige to sustain al things are equaly important (make the ropes the same lengh) and rememper that all must exist together (tie the ropes together. the short rope as a sliding nkot on the long rope)and with trust (start roling the rope into your handsliding the knot towards the real knot) you will find you made your love stronger (show that one of the knots are now gone by on roling the first part of the rope), And whatever truble may come along (showing the false knot) remember that by respecting your love will make you both happy (visibly sliding the knot of the rope). and by remember the happines you feel this day will help your love, you happines to become one forever! (display the rope as one whole rope).
